My adventures in leatherworking - a little crafting help and information
Leatherworking - whew, it's a grind. It's by far the hardest trade skill I've attempted. So here's a little bit of information that might help others get past level 11.

I took the day off from work (*why do I need to take a day off for a game!*) to level my leatherworking. I took the day off so I wouldn't feel like I was the cause of my clan to not be able to progress (*Oh that's why - peer pressure - is this an intended social feature?*).

Most of our holdup has been in the difficulty of obtaining hides. Tier 1 hides (rough hide) take a while to farm compared to any other resource (1-2 hide per animal and spread out). I finally mapped out a route through the forest by our castle where I can collect approximately 80 Rough Hide in 20 minutes. That equates out to 40 generic leather on the rack. (I'm glaring at the DIscord portrait of our blacksmith who can collect around 300 ore in the same amount of time). I had a good jump on the amount of leather I needed from doing around 2 hours of the wolf cave the night before but I still had to do this run 4 times.

I started at level 12 leatherworking and got to level 16. I crafted Split Leather Gloves all the way to 16. I believe these are the best choice as they were moderate at 12 (I used rough leather bands up to 11) and trivial at 16 and requires the least amount of materials at 1 Generic Leather, 3 Rough Leather Bonds (that's why you use those to level up to 11), 1 Rough String (you get 50 per craft so not as many needed), and 3 Iron Studs (easy to make).

It took so many gloves to level from 12 to 13 (it felt like 100 because of failures) but I think it was around 41, that I started keeping track on a spreadsheet of how many items it took to level each level and the average experience per successful craft.

From 13 to 14 it took 45 successful crafts with an average experience amount of 155 per item and a failure rate of about 13% (this was at moderate). So around 7,000 experience.

From level 14 to 15, it took 56 successful item crafts with an average experience gain of 150 and a failure rate of around 10%. Total experience around 8,400.

From 15 to 16, it took 66 total crafts at an average of 137.16 (I used more samples to get the average this time) with a failure rate of around 3%. Total experience to level around 9,053.

Once I hit 16, I attempted the Large animal hides which was now moderate and trivial at 20. The good news is, I was successful on 22 of the 25, an 88% success rate. I was able to use that to craft the neeced Leather String (for upgraded crafting stations) and some Leather Bands (for our blacksmith/weaponsmith/armorsmith).

Now it's time for a break. My plan to get to 20 is to craft the Suede Leather Headbands as they are moderate at 16 and trivial at 20 and only use 2 Generic Leather as well as some other general mats (1 Wrought Iron Buckler which our blacksmith can literally make me a 1000 now). I don't want to use anything that used the boiled leather which is RARE because of the drop rate of Animal Hide to produce it.

There could be a leatherworking achievement when maxed... "NOT one more hide!"

edit*btw, great mapping for others. Thanks

Excellent Map of your levels. If you don't mind me asking, what gives you the boiled hide?

Boiled hide comes from the the orange hides that drop off higher level beasts. You have to turn them into Large Animal Hides then refine them on the tanning station. The Animal Hides are used for both Boiled Leather and Fine Leather. There's basically no progressing past level 22 right now due to the lack of Animal Hide drops.
