General Tips for Pax Dei
In Pax Dei, there are ton of systems and some are more straightforward than others. So I'm going to give a start guide for people to help them ease into the crafting as best they can.

First and Foremost, this is really rough to play alone or in small group. I would recommend a clan of at least 6 people, but small groups can do it too, just going to take exponentially longer.

Crafting can be divided into two types, Automated and Manual. Automated crafts are those that have a real world timer ticking where you can do other things in the game till it's done. Manual crafts are those that you have to watch the minigame to see if you craft.

As far as automatic crafting is concerned, more is better. So make multiple of the workstations and have them going simultaneously. In the down time while you are waiting for those to craft anywhere from 20 mins to 1hr 20(For Wrought iron) go out and restock on reagents. If you're concerned about wasting time, you can eventually with a decent surplus queue up multiple crafts at those automatic workstations.

For manual crafts, It's arguably painful for some professions, but you want to craft the easiest recipe that still gives exp. Yes this does mean that there is a lot of extra pieces that you probably won't use, but just like other mmo's you end up having to power thru those crafts to get to the ones you need. Also please note that when you look at where it says Easy/Hard/Very Hard, there is going to be two numbers. For example it might appear as 3/8, This shows that you are level 3 (the left number) and the level of the craft you are attempting being 8 (the right number). The closer you are to the right number, the easier it is to craft.

At this time, I don't see a reason to craft things that are higher than moderate (save for some oddball requirements to make a new workstation) as you only get a small increase in xp from those crafts. Better to have the higher chance to craft the item consistently when you are leveling.

Food Stuff

In Pax Dei, food is not required to play the game, but it greatly benefits when consumed. If at all possible, gather food and be sure to save the apples for later.

When you make the basic cooking tools, you unlock many new workstations for cooking. By far the most important one is the one that requires granite. This will allow you to begin to make ciders and eventually syrups. These will greatly benefit you when it comes to mining and chopping trees as it can more than double your Stamina.

Another good one is finding large amounts of Fennel. As with the table mentioned above, you can craft Fennel Tea which gives a whopping 30 stam to you, with room for two other foods to eat as well. This makes it so you can harvest the Iron (not impure/ not pure) that turns into Wrought iron in a single stamina bar and greatly speeds up efficiency

Unlocking Recipes

In Pax Dei, when something new is crafted, you really want to save 1 piece of the new materials that has the Unlock Addition Recipes Icon (Scroll) to share with the clan so they to can unlock the recipes, as there is a lot of crossing between crafting professions. Sometimes it might unlock a recipe that is used to level up a different professions, but without touching it, you would not know that. The clan i was played would gather around when new crafts were made or store them in a box so people could come by and quickly pick em up and put them back to unlock recipes.

A big one that is arguable the most important is the upgraded chest that has more slots. This requires pieces from Blacksmith and Carpentry to unlock and the carpenter is the one that makes the final product, but without the assistance of a blacksmith (not weaponsmith , or armorsmith) this would not be possible. This particular box is double the space of the basic one. It helps with storage and organization.

There is one reason for me to craft hard or even very hard, the gathering tools.

So true. Locking basic armor access behind a combination of grindy professions is sad.

I wish they would make a specific server with balance settings less hostile to solo play. (Some mechanic would be necessary to prevent such server to be flooded by clans anyway such as maybe, for example, a noticeable tax for anything sharing/trading/operating non-owned workstation.) Otherwise, this game is just not for me and the numerous people that dislike being forced into clans to progress. This is unfortunate because I really enjoyed the world, gathering and construction. I feel the crafting/skill system would have been fun if reasonably balanced for solo.
