the exception is mob that spawn to attack your field buildings. Those can get high-level but doesn't have much benefits (they don't really give a lot of exp last I checked)
Station your adventurers near towers of appropriate enemy level to level up (avoid enemies unless you really have upper hand and can kill their heroes). If the leveling seems too slow, kill bosses to advance quickly.
as for trading, I am not sure if the trader just sells stuff characters leaves there or is there a way to access their normal inventory directly. I am guessing former though. For valuables (such as blood line items or chests), you can buy them directly from inventory but you'll need to access each person one at a time (which is a hassle)
It seems that the intent is for your defenses to be eventually overwhelmed and for you to start it over. Unfortunately, even when the monsters "win" and destroy your stuff they will just loiter around the area killing everyone until you grind them down.
I've seen a dev post around mentioning that if you can survive ~10 waves, that the waves will stop.
Regarding the loot issues, a similar problem I've seen is that many items will not be in an adventurer's pick up range and will then be left on the ground.
Some helpful advice I've received here is to place straw men on the farming areas you can build on. They will wander around killing monsters but also they will collect dropped items for you and you can see the items in the strawman inventory.
Anyway, I love the game and hope you are having a good time despite the rough edges.
Leviathan > Collection
Click the lit (tiny) icons when you have enough items. Once you fulfill all items in a bar, the bonus gets added to the right side of the collection screen.
My level 10 visitors have high enough stats to kill lvl 50 slimes.
Every once in a while, 'view' your heroes, go to 'manual,' click the one skill book they have equipped and click 'auto' button to distribute their skills. I have no idea why their skills don't level automatically but you as the player have to manually improve their skills. Then click the + button in the "status" tab to see if any new skills unlocked. This process should really be handled automatically, but if you're not doing it, your characters are probably underskilled for the content.
Second tip, all characters can learn a second skill book in the enlightement tower. If you end up with characters that start with a healing skill, they can't deal damage worth sh*t and will be level 7 when their other team mates are in their 40s. Find some damage skill books that utilize the staff and teach them asap.
Then go back to the 'status' window, click the skill icon in 'cultivation method' to change the healing skill to the damage dealing skills. They'll start leveling up their damage skills and hopefully level faster.
I know all this sounds convoluted as hell but it'll make sense if you play around with the adventurer window.
Well, thanks for this. No idea why this isn't automated, but I just went from the highest hit I've seen a hero perform around 1600, to skadooshing some 11k damaging attack. Hopefully at least the roving adventurers are auto assigning their stuff because I'm definitely not going to sit there and remind everyone hopping off the boat that maybe they should assign their skill points.
Someone wrote a new guide going over the basics and the Collection system. The Collection mechanic is a significant buff to your forces despite never being explained ingame.
