Item Use?

I'll be honest guys, I can't figure out how to use the Inventory system. Potions and pickups don't work, and I've found scrolls while I have the appropriate pillar card, but it's not done anything. Do you need to open an inventory somehow to use stuff out of it? I can't find keybinds in the options for that.
