A funny example of that is what he says about the mirror. When he hears the Narrator say there isn't a mirror, he believes him, even though he can clearly see the mirror. He's such a suckup that he can't even disagree with someone using direct observation.
He's just a really fun character, always lying, planning and switching sides whenever he sees fit.
For the Contrarian, another cool thing about him is that he gets his own character arc in his route. And in the ending you mentioned, he feels a lot more developed as a person but still feels like the Contrarian.
I do agree that the Broken is kinda hard to listen to, he's such a downer. But that's the whole point, he's the sad downer character, completely unique to everyone else. You said he's similar to the Cold which is true if you look at the words they say, but the reasons behind them are completely different. Both say "nothing matters" but mean completely different things. The Broken says that as a reason to give up and just let whatever happen happen, he says "nothing matters" to mean it's all pain and suffering and there's no way out (until meeting the Tower, his only hope). The Cold says "nothing matters" literally, as an opportunity to do whatever you want. If something kills you, who cares. Both characters have their specific purpose.
I think my least favorite would be the Hunted. I will say that I'd rather have the Hunted around than the Broken but character wise, I think Hunted feels the least unique. He is a LOT like the Paranoid with a bit of Skeptic and Cold. He has that fear but he's more on the side of trying to figure out what to do. He's more of a "useful" voice while the Paranoid just gives you scary thoughts (with the exception of Heart Lungs Liver Nerves). There is a route in the Den where he changes his demeanor completely which was really cool.
I don't hate the Hunted, he still has a place in the story and works really well, it's just he's probably the most boring out of all the voices. But I like all the voices.
Now, least favorite definitely is, was, and will always be Smitten. He is so ridiculously annoying. Happily Ever After was satisfying when I finally got to get rid of him for good.
Close second is the Stubborn; he comes from the attitude and courses of action I am largely inclined to take in this kind of game. He's also quite smitten with the Princess.
Least favorite is the Opportunist: he's nothing but backstabbing, butt-kissing, and blatantly lying about whose side he was "always" on. Furthermore, he straight-up outright tries to kill you yourself! in "The Princess and the Dragon." He is funny, but not very valuable to me.
I really like stubborn, his princesses and his idea of what romance is are very fun.
I'm not a big fan of broken, but I'd just be repeating what other people here said, so I'll say Cold instead. He doesn't really... do a lot? Which I guess makes sense given how he tends to show up whenever you kill yourself
I like them all to some extent, but the Cold is the least interesting to me. ♥♥♥♥ the Opportunist- I like his voice, and I like his personality, and I *like* him, but ♥♥♥♥ him. He reminds me of Wheatley too who I had similar feelings about lol
Least favorite - Smitten.
Elaboration: I feel like for me it is about agency. Which voice is willing and able to adapt their viewpoint depending on the situation. But not just having the ability to modulate their behaviour but have actual agency. The broken doesn't want anything at all, he is broken, so he has no desire to act. However the opportunist is so trapped in his desire for immediate gains, that I would argue he has probably the least agency over his own actions. Sceptik is an outliner at the bottom of the list for because while he has agency, he is so trapped in his scepticism he actively takes away agency from the decider, which I find annoying as hell. The next three Smitten, Contrarian and also operate within their own very narrow field of actions they can pursue to achieve their desire, just all in a different way. The cold is the first one who's actions aren't predictable. He desires to feel something and has to get creative in the pursuit of that goal. My rank 2 - 4 Hunted, Cheated and Paranoid also posses a lot of agency in how they want to achieve their respective goals: survival, victory and sanity. And to me these goals are more relatable than the others. Which is why the hero is my clear favourite. He ask himself what the "right" thing would be to do in any given situation. He offers advice and is also not afraid to readjust his stance, if the situation develops differently than how he expected. As a closing statement I would like to add that I also think that every voice has its well deserved place. To put it like shifty might: How could we cherish the hero, without knowing the broken.
