Is there a certain order you need to get endings in? Do you need to get all the endings on one save to get certain endings? Or can you just have a ton of different saves and still get all the endings?
So I just started playing the game, please no spoilers!

The first ending I got was the Water and Steel achievement. I had decided to go into the game trying my damnedest to kill her. I also didn't save at all because I didn't want to be able to backtrack on my first play through.

However... I just did my second playthrough and I go the "A Loving Vessel" achievement and the "The Real Slay the Princess Starts Here"

Which has now made me wonder.... during that second playthrough I kept saving at points that had interesting options cause I wanted to go back and see what happened it I picked different.

But that "the real slay the princess stats here" made me wonder if I need to have one universal save to get all the endings? Or does it matter? Can you get all the endings by playing on multiple different saves? Or do you need to have all the playthroughs on a single save in order to get all possible endings?

Again. No spoilers! I just want to know if I can't have a bunch of saves going and get everything. Or if I need to get saves in a specific order. Like now that I have this "A Loving Vessel" ending, do I need to regret the "Water and Steel" ending on this save?

Technically, if I'm reading your post correctly, you haven't actually reached an ending yet. You will get mutiple "Chapter 1"s and "Chapter 2"s or even "Chapter 3"s in one playthrough, that's just how the game is designed. But there's no "correct" order to get endings in, and there's multiple endings you can get. Keep playing in a save, and after about 5 or so times you get a new Chapter 2, eventually you will reach the point you get an ending. There's a few different endings you can get, but the achievements you've mentioned don't represent an ending.

Just know that the game has no meta progression, i.e every time you click new game and save, you're saving everything about your current route, and that save won't contain anything about other times you've played the game. When you reset to the beginning without clicking new game, the game still saves information about your previous routes.

Oh no I've gotten to the end and started over 2 times now. I just want to make sure there's not some overarching thing where your character keeps forgetting... but the GAME remembers and there's endings you get from that, but only if it's all on the same save kind of thing.

Okay. Then is it better to keep it all one save?

Like is there something to be gained from all your endings you experience being contained within the same save?

Or is it okay to play with multiple saves and endings happening across different saves?

There's a bit of confusion here, likely due to you not knowing something which we can't elaborate upon without spoiling story details. Suffice to say, as long as you don't return to the main menu, you're making a form of cumulative progress toward an ending in which you'll see the credits roll.

As far as I can tell there's no Undertale super metagame secret, if you've done X you can't see Y, or in the future A is now B - each full play through, and I'll let you work out what a 'full play through' is is unique, the state of previous games what you did impacts nothing on the next game or the next one.

It's one of the few branching narrative games where, I don't save before decisions, there are no wrong answers, or wrong paths.....you want to see each route to it's end

It's a masterpiece of moving parts and interconnections

Without spoiling things, let me just say that if you haven't seen the credits roll, you have not reached an ending.

In an effort to not spoil things and tell what I've gotten so far. Here are the two "endings" I've gotten.

I believe the credits rolled both times? But I honestly don't remember at this point?

The first "ending" I got was with me trying my hardest to kill her and then she just turned into the iron throne if it was a person. Went into a big void area. She was talking all cryptic. Memory wiped.

The second "ending" I got was a whole new save and I was trying to save her. We got out of the cottage. Then she disappeared. We went into the void. this time she was being held by a ton of hands. Again talking cryptically. The entity talking to me said the princess asked me to remember her but that I wouldn't. Then boom back at the beginning.

Like I said. That first one I didn't save AT ALL. So that playthrough is gone. The second one I did save at multiple points.

So based on what I've said. Do I need to continue playing after the ending on the second save? Or can I experience more endings while playing at the other save points I had on that playthrough?
RenWyvern Jul 12, 2024 @ 10:18pm
Yeah, those weren't endings. You'll understand if you keep playing, pay attention to what she says in that space.

It has a very definitive 'end' of a play-through - you will 100% know when a run through ends, if you think it has, it hasn't, if you're not sure, it hasn't
