Glass shattering sound is too loud (light spoilers I guess?)
The glass shattering sound that happens every time you-know-when is too loud IMO. Like, startlingly loud, uncomfortably loud. I'm only 3 you-know-whats deep and I already hate this part because every time is uncomfortable, even when I expect it. Is that an intentional part of horror, the same way that, for example The Razor's blade arms sound is understandably a bit loud and startling?

For the time being, I've heard from a few folks that they've had a better experience turning down the sound effects slider by ~25%, so that might be a helpful start!

If more people feel the same way about this sound though I can look into making it a little quieter

Hope you're enjoying the game ^^

Thank you for the response, will try turning it down. Loving the game so far, it matches the extremely high expectations set by the demos!

the glass smashing does actually feel significantly louder than anything else, so I'll second OPs point.

Hey folks! I lowered that specific sound effect by 3.5 db for the latest build. Let me know if that works better for you!

It’s still quite loud compared to other sound effects, I certainly noticed it today, so it must have been very loud before!

given the plot relevance of the shatter i do think it's good it's prominent in the audio balance but it was probably too loud before. seems about right now

That's roughly where we want it, so good to hear!

You must have very low standards for horror games.

Hi all,

Latest patch has normalized the peak of the glass breaking sound to be 4db quieter than the previous peak. Ideally should be a better balance right now, especially if you're using headphones.

how so? Almost every horror game has loud noises and hard sound.

I have to commend the sound person: The glass breaking is enough to make my heart twitch. It's really a solid sound design.

Good horror doesn't need to rely on loud startling noises. So if you think that horror games are supposed to be loud, then you probably don't know good horror.
