I did read your post and immediately think of Thorn as being my favorite, though :)
Their story is really beautiful in that story line, and works so well as a parallel to real relationship struggles people face. Easily my favorite so far!
but it was certainly Thorn as well. I'm gonna go into some story backdrop as to why, as I like giving some fun reasoning as to what drew me in to her story in particular.
This game got me emotional; from laughing my ass off when you go The Adversary route and you keep getting the s**t beat out of you but the voice of the competitor( believe that was the voice's name) keeps giving you the option to get back up and keep fighting to the point your face is literally splattered on the wall, to this route in particular that made me genuinely cry quite a lot.
When I first met the entity on the outside and I had a conversation, it was evident to me that both the PC and the entity had known each other for a long time, if not... Well, since the beginning of their existence in their world. The way she spoke, that she spoke of how she knew nothing except us? It was clear that our ties to the princess and this entity went much deeper than us just being some random hero going to slay a princess.
The game literally tells us right at the beginning that it's a love story; it wouldn't tell us this without some purpose in my mind.
So having seen some endings where you're literally trapped after the princess dies, I had a suspicion that we were tied to the princess in almost a literal sense; the yin and yang sort of theory.
---
Having said all that, I came across this ending on a mere whim of wanting to try and explore what options you have to bring the princess safely to the entity. The gradual progress of having built up trust, breaking it by attempting to slay her, and then having built that trust back up again through a series of 3 chapters? I don't know. I think when the Thorn allows you to take the blade, that's what really sold it to me that the two characters do truly love each other, despite the f***ed up loop they find themselves in.
I think this princess in particular also offers a soft spot in my heart just due to the fact that it had easily the best character progression arc that I have seen so far in the game. The 3-4 chapter routes have been by far my favorite ones to experience, and I am eagerly hoping all the other routes also lead into 3-4 chapters, depending on your choices.
Almost wish it was possible for every person to see that route prior to reaching the end. (Honestly think the 5 perspectives is much too short for the end imo, but was still very enjoyable nonetheless)
TL;DR: Thorn was by far my favorite princes just solely based on the lore's story that I had gathered so far prior to seeing that route. Really sold the premise and made the ending all the more impactful to me.
but she shares first place for me with Apotheosis (princess->tower->apotheosis) cos of design, sheer presense and power. truly the best dommy mommy, if you're into that sort of thing... cos i am
The Nightmare for "creepiness".
Tower for big mommy.
But yeah I think my personal favorite is actually knife route normal princess, the prisoner and
the witch are close though. Wild(its kinda sweet whether you stay networked or separate and then help Wounded Wild) and Beast/Den have fun stuff to them too though
Not to mention there's more than one way to reach certain ch2 outcomes that essentially start the arc; most of it comes from doing things one way in ch1 and then doing them differently in ch2.
Edit: nevermind, I played more of the game.
