Edit: Not referring to electricity capacity, just the boost that comes with having more electricity
It's very misleading, and almost makes the upgrade pointless, since you have a hard time gauging whether mining a block will kill you from lack of fuel. But by then, I suppose you either will murder a block with no recoil, or be murdered immediately, due to the game's scaling levels.
I don't even need to drill any more, and haven't since mid-game. The drones just pummel everything to oblivion. I have some planets prestiged to 100 and the core is still obliterated within a second of loading in.
When you start on a planet you are at max fuel and max distance from the core. When you get the depth meter you can see this distance. Now let's say that you free fall for a distance of 5 before you even hit the planet. You are now 5 closer to the core and your various bonus' are boosting your max fuel value.
Regen, only works when damaging blocks. If you have been freefalling then you can't damage blocks. This means you'll see your fuel value shoot from full to 5%. You aren't losing any fuel, the max you can hold is going up.
