So... what do shiny blocks actually do?

They kill you super easy, are hard to drill through, make your ship bounce as though the gravity upgrade didn't exist, and give you significantly less resources than if you just progressed through the prestige levels and work on maxing out those block drop chance boosters.

... Personal frustration aside, they act as very dense individual blocks that provide a very large multiplier to the resources mined from that individual block. These resource bonuses can be quite high, but I never found them to be worth the extra hassle. They could use a significant buff to actually be worth turning on.

You can easilly destroy them with few maxed out grenades.

By the time you can do that, it's both faster and more profitable to just stack prestige levels and the bonus objective multipliers. I got to a point where I'd set an autoclicker to where the "prestige and restart" button would be and I'd finish each one (with max objectives) in a couple of seconds each level. Sure I wasn't destroying more than 1/5 of the planet, but the multipliers were stacking so fast it literally didn't matter. I could walk a way from the computer and come back after a few minutes to a few dozen (and later a few HUNDRED) prestige levels on that planet and enough resources to buy a large chunk of upgrades.

with or without the auto clicker this is the most profitable path. the shiny block just are not worth it compared to prestige. when you push as far as you can just step back a level or 2 and you are way better off grinding this out over the shiny blocks.

They are serve purpose to make game not fun. To stop your progress and be extremely annoying. Simply they are cancer, that ruin your game. Developers need to add proper explanation ("Shiny?" says nothing, you think it might be upgrade, while in reality...) about them or allow to refund bought shop item. Or increase their price, that they would be expensive, so that 1st time players would buy when they're strong enough.
