Unable to play with PS4 friend

I am trying to play this with a friend on ps4 and it gives me the error that I failed to join. When i invite him to my game he gets the invite and accepts it but it does nothing afterwards. I've tried unfriending and re-adding him but that didn't work either. For some reason it shows me as offline on his friends list but he appears online on mine.

Try to join him, usually when you both restart the game friends list should work again...

I have the same issue. Moved from PlayStation to PC and kept the same Activision account, on PS my account was left appearing offline and I'm told that also affects your account on PC. If you get the "Failed to Join Party (3)" error then you both need to restart the game and it should work.
