Broken Matchmaking + Different version error message
Right, we all seem to be aware that there was a 3GB update, supposedly just to bring back the MWIII and Warzone 2.0 ads back into the game. Now none of us seem to be able to find any matches, and last night when trying to join the lobby of friends on console I was receiving an error message that indicated that I had the wrong version of the game.

I have just reinstalled on Battle.net to see if it works on there and instantly found a full Hardpoint lobby. So it seems as though this is a Steam exclusive issue. Console players can play the game without issue, as can Battle.net it seems.

I would presume there is an issue here in the sense that Cold War's steam release was a hindsight event, hopefully it is fixed on here soon.

I will consider myself lucky that I only got Cold War on here cheap so it was in my Steam library with all my other cod games, when in actual fact during its life cycle I actually just owned it on Battle.net. If anyone else is in the same boat as me, give it a go on there!

Finally I have solved the issue: downgrade the game. Using info found on the steamdb webpage we can execute a command on the steam console to perform an specific download. The command is: ``download_depot 1985810 1985811 5380296931597271327``, in order to execute this command we need access first to the steam console and in order to do that we need to press Win + R and type ``steam://open/console``, once we do that a new tab is going to be open on the steam top bar. When the first command i have shown is executed steam is going to perform an silent download, there is no progress bar or anything, it is not going to be quick, its like a 40GB download. Once its completed a folder is going to be created on C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_1985810, all the content of this folder is going to be pasted on C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War (replacing the content that already exists, do not delete anything, just paste and replace). After that go to the library, right click on the game and under updates select "Only update this game when I launch it", then just launch the game as normal

this has been reported to not work for people as well, its subjective on whether it does not not.

Step 1: Win + R and type: "steam://open/console" this will show a new tab in steam called console.

Step 2: Paste "download_depot 1985810 1985811 5380296931597271327" into the console; which will download the game files needed for the downgrade to the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_1985810

Step 3: When the download is finished, copy the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\contentapp_1985810\depot_1985811 to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War (have files replaced and not deleted)

Step 4: Right click on the game in your Steam library, Properties, Update and select the option to update only when starting the game.

Step 5: Launch the game and play.

I tried it today and it worked for me, follow step by step. Good luck!
