Very stuck in this game

I can get to the hedge maze, but cannot enter due to a wooden barricade and a puzzle with no Start or End. How do I get in?

A piece of advice- if you ever find a puzzle you can't find the solution to- try painting it red, it works more often than not.

There is an S and E on the board. Or you could do what I did and scribble all over the thing until it opens :D
