As madraccOOn said - there is a balance patch each month.
Last meta report the faction with the lowest winrate was Ultra Marines with 46.40% and Saim Hann had the highest winrate with 61,07%.
The difference between warlords was much higher tho with the strongest winrate at 63,9% and the lowest at 37%.
The patch we got since than drastically shifted warlord power levels.
This game is very F2P friendly. You can easily gather an extensive collection without ever spending money. Cosmetics and bundles are severly overpriced. The only thing with reasonable value are the premium campaigns. Once you get the offer to buy one for half the price. That is a steal.
Balance is non existent. Sure they make balance update every once a month but rather than things get better they only get worst and worst. At the moment eldars are top tier as you can see in ranks, ultra marines at the bottom and almost unplayable. If you don't mind grinding forever and not bother playing ranked games you will like it at the beginning. But The catch is that don't expect to get far in ranked if you decide to start. RNG is also heavy which makes it even worst to rank up. Btw i am playing since early access, i was on legendary rank with more than 200 hours and was focusing on UM faction the most. I am still missing 2 important cards that i haven't been able to get on shop or on random draws, but i am not playing UM at all atm since they are by far the worst faction. tbh i am always like "i am done with this game" but because i guess i am masochist and coming back every balance update to see and have another laugh. i hope you enjoy the game more than i do
eldars main key word shuriken can only be used when actively attacking.
they got a few stealthers though.
essentially, if you pay for this you run outa things to do according to those who did.
if you dont, then some factions cards will stay elusive.
the time to earn cards via rng or red crystals is simply too much.
the weird thing due to pack drop rates the only consistent way to pay enough cheaply is buying medals during certain events for new cards...
When people talk about card games making the newer cards/strategies leagues above the previous, its usually done in hyperbole. Not for this game. They regularly will add similar mechanics to new cards that were already shown to be problem mechanics in the past. Rewards are very slow if you are f2p as well. Its designed to make you want to spend money in most facets from the balance to the way the forge works, to the battle pass rewards. Potentially you could get everything f2p but its a huge time sink.
You can use common sense and compare what bundles cost, because most of them come with cosmetics. That, and you have cosmetic shops in events like the one that is on now, and they cost a large chunk of currency.
That's not a real shop, you can only buy few things there and then they're gone, can't buy them anymore.
Proper shop is where you can buy cosmetics SEPERATELY and without time restriction, like it was in some of the early game's versions.
For example, I still want to buy Necron avatar from the Necron event - how the f do I do it, if the current (and previous) event isn't even Necron? So no, event shops are not shops, since I could throw a ton of money at them and still not get my Necron avatar.
But I suppose we must wait for when the player count drops and devs need more money, it should force them to reopen the old cosmetics shop from early versions.
You can see the difference what Bundle X cost in the past without cosmetics and what it cost now with cosmetics added to it. Thereby you can see the price difference for that cosmetic item - simple logic - and they are overpriced in bundles compared with bundles without that coscmetics added. And like you stated before cosmetics shop is closed. So calculating the difference (bundle price without cosmetics - bundle price with added cosmetics is the only way to find the actual implicit price for cosmetics)
The game is not balanced and never will be just like hearthstone, in fact you could call it hearthstone 40K. Interaction is non existent, it's even worse than hearthstone that at least had tempo through secrets, this game is just a slug and swing fest. Given that design any faction who can clear a board then force a win through value or just drop someones face is high on the ladder and those factions that can't are low and this won't change.
The factions that are currently winning will always win unless they remove wipe cards like Day of ascension / Word of Gork / Godhammer missile / Eldar lightning storm. It's currently way to easy to stall and then just instajib someone. Any faction / warlord that relies on hard to earn board presence is mid to bottom tier right now.
The factions that don't have wipes should get access to counters that stop wipes otherwise they'll just be fodder.
