The auto-battle system in Kingdoms is totally hands off so success depends on preparation in having the best general and a well put together army (and a bit of luck). Playing in Medieval you can apply your skill and win against the odds (a bit). Because the army lists and bonuses are different between the games there isn't a 1-1 conversion which detracts from putting together the best army composition.
On the whole, I'm not sure how much the integration gives. Most battles are 1-sided affairs that would be pointless to play in Medieval. It is fun though when you get a big battle. Also, the Kingdoms game has so much going on managing things that it is a bit of a distraction.
You can't play assault battles against walled cities etc. in Medieval.
Medieval is a great game all by itself.
Can't wait to get stuck in!
