BUG! Cannot start Game

"Ambiguous main file error for text0" followed by 'unhandled exception error', then game crashes to desktop. Real nice developers, good coding. What the fix?

Hello,
Sorry about your issue. The file you mentioned is the one we use to test certain special European characters, like

ç à é è ê ë ï î ô ù û ü ÿ œ

so it’s possible that your version of Windows doesn’t support them if all fonts are not installed.

==> What is the language of your Windows?

We will release a patch shortly to stop referencing those characters in that file — this should resolve the problem.

Yes, absolutely. If you're comfortable handling files in Windows, you can go to the game's Local Files via Steam (right-click on the game in your library). Then navigate to:
\Field of Glory Kingdoms\Data\Text

Edit the file Text0_System.txt (if you're playing in English, otherwise use FRE, SPA, or GER).
Near the end of the file, you will see:


IDS_LANGSAMPLE_FRA, "Portez ce vieux whisky au juge blond qui fume ç à é è ê ë ï î ô ù û ü ÿ œ æ ‘ascendant’",
IDS_LANGSAMPLE_GER, "„Was ist mit Dir los?”, hat er mir gesagt… ‚Nichts – nja, noch nichts‘, hab’ ich geantwortet Falsches Üben von Xylophonmusik quält jeden größeren Zwerg",
IDS_LANGSAMPLE_SPA, "El veloz murciélago hindú comía kiwi y saxofón. Añadiendo para completar: ¡!¿? ñ ç.",


Erase the content between the double quotes so that the three lines (which must remain—do not delete them) look like this:


IDS_LANGSAMPLE_FRA, "",
IDS_LANGSAMPLE_GER, "",
IDS_LANGSAMPLE_SPA, "",


Save and relaunch the game. Hopefully this resolves the issue—I’m fairly confident it will. If not, please contact support so we can understand why this file is still causing problems even after clearing the special characters: [[e-mail]](mailto:[e-mail])

Go to the folder above as explained, and please tell me how many files in there start with the string Text0. There should be only 4, of the form described above.

No such luck I am afraid. I am still getting the same error. Would a possible fix be adding whichever font enables the non-english fonts the game is using? If you could tell me which font(s) I would need, maybe that is a solution?

There are 9 files. Here is a list of them.

text0...system
text0
text0_fre
text0_ger
text0_spa
text0_system
text0_system_fre
text0_system_ger
text0_system_spa

Only the last 4 should be there, the first five should have been removed by the patching process.
Delete them by hands please, until we understand why they remained.

You might also try verifying your install via Steam. You do this by right clicking on the game in your library, Properties->Installed Files->Verify integrity of game files.

If you are still having issues then please uninstall the game entirely (and I would suggest deleting the folder by hand if it remains) and then reinstall. As Pocus says, somehow the Steam update process has failed to remove old files.
