El Cid Campaign
Just started getting into this seemingly wonderful game. I'm starting with the El Cid campaign and I have literally no idea where to go and what to do. Can someone give me a few suggestions on what to do, where to go, a few strategies, tactics?

Really? No advice? I'm not looking for details, just a few vague suggestions to get me on the right track to understanding the game's strategies.

Well it’s kind of a sandbox. So it’s hard to say what you should do. But if anything I’d say start with learning the civic side first. learn what each categories of buildings do, making sure you make enough metal and gold. Loyalty local and overall authority and after that, play around with the army. The deeper sides of the game is kinda hidden though, so you may want to look at the manual for the game, it’s very helpful

I've just read through the entire manual and I basically understand all the mechanics. This is one of those games that's going to be easy to pick up, but difficult to master -- my sort of game. The reason I asked about El Cid specifically is because he's essentially a nomad without a region to his name. I was curious what decisions you guys would make to be successful since the possibilities are so open ended.

I started the same El Cid campaign with Aragon and just took Huesca. If I understand correctly, Local Authority is based on the National Authority +- Modifiers. The Loyalty and Revolt Risk is derived from the population (cultural & religious preferences) and Local Authority, which I think translates to a base Regional Loyalty, i.e., 100 Local Authority means 100 Regional Loyalty and then it's either a percentage as the number goes down or it's based on thresholds (haven't figured it out yet). This is my question:

Do armies act as Public Order "boosters" similar to Total War? If I leave my army there, will the Loyalty increase quicker than if I didn't? What else to do? Do I really need to focus on raising Piety and Stewarship? Will the Loyalty just go up on its own?

I'm going to raise this in another thread. Don't think I'm not grateful for your response(s).
Read the manual yet?

Stationed armies won't raise Loyalty, but will reduce Revolt Risk. If they are powerful enough, however (100+?) they can do forced religious conversions, which can potentially help Loyalty a lot.

Reading the manual is overrated. Lol
I wouldn’t start with el cid, since most of this advice and that of the manual isn’t gonna help. Plus no other nation in the game starts as just an army. So it’s not gonna help you learn how to play basically any other nation. Come back to el cid after playing a settled nation in that scenario, or simply play the grand campaign would be my advice for a beginner.

I actually think the grand campaign is much easier for a beginner and the specific scenarios should be played later on. Especially since the specific scenarios have ways to get legacy that the grand campaign doesn’t.

For learning the game i would suggest playing grand campaign as castilia or maybe sweden.
