How to Get Tools?

I have several buildings wanting tools as bonus, but have yet, after 50 turns, to see anything that produces tools. Is there an actual Tool Maker or such?

They are produced by "Toolsmith", it's a tier 2 infractructure building (meaning, it requires at least 3 other infrastructure buildings in the same region before you can build it), requires 5 population.

Toolsmith requires Iron Ore, so you are likely lacking that.

I think (not sure, though) that iron ore isn't required to build toolsmith, only to use it. Even without it, you should be able to build it (although you will pay money for missing iron).

I actually HAVE an iron mine! So, either way, will keep looking each time a building space comes up. Thanks for all the help.

I finally had the Toolsmith come up...built it...bastard enemy regions nearby sucked it all up for themselves!!!! Grrrrr...

Okay, further questions.

I produce 3 iron ore w my mine. One gets sucked to Nevers (Champagne) w trade range 3 and acumen 5. One gets sucked to Bourgogne (Champagne) w trade range 3 and acumen 5. One gets sucked to Avignon (Provence) w trade range 3 and acumen 3.

My region, Chauvigny, trade range 2 and acumen 5, has the toolsmith and is paying through the nose (26 gold) for iron even though it knows the iron mine is right next door.

My region, La Marche, produces the 3 iron...trade range 2 and acumen 10.

So why does one go to Avignon when my regional trade acumen for the tools region is 5 ot its 3?

Do you have an alliance or cooperation agreement with the owner of Avignon? I'm not sure, but I think that could give them bonus to trade acumen with your regions.

But zey are no more...we stomped zem into oblivion...but I haven't checked yet to see if my tools are getting ze iron...too busy looting ze bodies. :) We may have to burn down whatever structure is using the iron!

Toolsmith/Master Toolsmith are both early T2, which means you'll need a Craftsman Borough and at least 2 other Infra structures before it can have a chance to pop up. Iron is the import good, but not having it wont prevent construction, just make the operation costlier due to the trade penalty.
