Things I really like about this game
Plenty of constructive criticisms here about the game but what do you particularly like about it? Here are mine:

Buildings/pop mechanic: The UI gets lots of flak but the way buildings and pops work is really well done and very intuitive. It's easy to move pops to where they are needed and the fact that building options are somewhat random helps prevent a meta from forming that causes all regions to look exactly the same

National Authority: I loved the decadence mechanic in Empires and this is a great next iteration. I like how it prevents me from just blindly painting the map and forces me to plan out my expansion. I expanded too fast in my Sicily game and was forced to create a vassal to save my campaign, which brings me to my last point

Decisions: I love how, like buildings, the decisions are somewhat random to prevent the player from exploiting them. These decisions are great for solving issues in your nation but sometimes, you just don't have the one you want and I've found that I'll get in a pickle and check my decisions to see if the one I want is there and I see it and it's a big relief. I'm glad the game keeps me on the edge of my seat like that!

i like the timing, the patience of building your kingdom. Consolidating your gains, building/pop game, warfare, hell pretty much all of it

I'm happy we have another medieval era strategy game, there aren't enough of these.

Thanks, guys. It's much appreciated, and Steam being Steam, some people are quick to post negative reviews, so it's comforting to have positive feedback about more than three years of work.

Do not hesitate to give a thumbs up to counterbalance the negative reviews, by the way. Anything helps a new release.

What I love about both Empires and Kingdoms is the way you develop your regions. The idea of randomizing your building options with a card-game like system is simply genius.

In other grand strategy games (e.g. Total War) I find myself always building the same structures in similar patterns. Empires and Kingdoms force you to think about each decision more carefully, and each time I manage to boost the resource production of a region with a new structure, it feels very rewarding.

FoG: Empires is the only game I can think of where I felt empowered because I could build cultural buildings (monuments, theatres, libraries, scriptoria etc.). In Total War I tend to ignore these in favour of bigger military buildings.

My second favourite part are the turn-based battles (when simulated in FoG 2 and Medieval). I have never seen a more accurate representation of ancient and medieval battlefield tactics in any other game.

Pops, anti-blobbing mechanics and warfare mechanics. Randomisation of buildings is a cool idea, I have to agree. The map is decently big. The focus on vassals is good. I wish the characters were more of a focus (the portraits are good) but they still add some nice gameplay.

Fighting a climatic, big decisive battle in Field of Glory: Medieval is really cool. Then leaving all the small engagements to the other combat system is goodz.

Love the building mechanic (and also the fun buildings). The love to detail.

The main asset is the very good combination with FOG2:Medieval.

The diplomacy got fleshed out. Love the new vassal system. (One of the biggest issues in Empire)

EDIT:
Bit sad its Kingdoms that got fleshed out and not the other way round. Kingdoms as first game and Empire as the more polished 2nd one.
Something about the Empire timeframe was just so amazing. Rome/Carthage/Hellenic/Barbarian/Steppe .... such a crazy time with so many interesting armies and cultures.

If it helps Pocus did say they would revisit Empires with a final patch with some improvements from Kingdoms...

Totally agree on all points. This is a great game. Love how the different systems work together.

I even like the combat. I understand why certain units perform better at different times. game does a good job of showing me how and why certain units and formations work well together. And losing a battle, I normally understand why and can fix it the next time.

Thats great news! If we can input the diplomacy-vassal system and upgrade Empires. Would be amazing.
Also willing to pay for a DLC that upgrades Empires to Empires 1.5.
