I believe they put it to 1090 instead.

"15.4. The Normans
The Normans will be given a decision, and an allocation of forces,
that allows them to either plan to invade England or to attack
France. Not only will this influence who they attack (especially
if controlled by the AI) it will determine if they are treated as
246
a French or English faction for some purposes as the game
progresses.
When setting up a game the player(s) have the option to disable
this event chain (4.3.1)."
15.8.2 says it happens in 1066. But so far in both games I’ve done the Norman’s get conquered by the French king before then. Since they don’t start as a vassal of the king of France.

Well, I've seen the notification of the event with Normans as AI.
I got nothing playing Normans. Is this AI only? If so, it should be explicit in the manual.

In my game they were dead before 1066 though.so I doubt it had time to fire.

Seems it fires for ai, based on the other comment, but the manual does make it sound like it is an event for the player as well?

I have seen it happen for the AI, but not as a player. I have a Norman game at about 200 turns. Paris attacked me in turn 5 so I wound up expanding into France. Ended up inheriting England without war at around 150 turns anyway.
Just ran a game and it didn't fire for me in 1066. Either the manual is wrong, or its a bug? But i guess it isn't an event for the player.

Bit annoying as it does mean if Edward the confessor is still not dead you can't manually declare war (without cancelling the marriage) meaning by 1066 you wont progress to the next government form without a larger realm, which has to be sought in France and therefore invading England is largely pointless at that stage.

yeah i havent invaded England at all as Normandy, Royal marriage an hes got a ton of Vassals, kinda would be difficult an costly, easy pickens in France though not all are vassals of france so land is easy to obtain

50 turns in for me as the normans and didn't get any special events for a norman invasion, though I was expecting something when Edward dies (took him forever to die, except he already has an heir because characters and family trees are randomized so everything remained status quo). Kind of annoyed and funny about it.

In my next game going to try to brute-force the invasion at turn start because despite similar combat power the english army(ies) starts pitifully small while the normans come with an actual stack.

Looks like a bug/an oversight.
I hope Pocus & friends will react and have a look.

Things like the Normans being already at war with someone, usually France, can throw a wrench into the event chain. Also the event only fires for the AI, as a human player usually is skilled enough to pull it off without help
Palpat Jun 7, 2024 @ 3:35pm
That is somewhat misleading. The manual speak of this like a rule and doesn't tell the human player he won't get the event.
Yh I think the manual needs to changed there. No mention of it being Ai only.

Has anyone actually play tested/managed to invade as Normandy? Seems to me with all England’s vassals you’d be better invading in the 1050’s. Since there’s no benefit to waiting for Edward for die.
