It's not.
They outright confirmed the story is not about traveling through time (well, more than once).
Your character had something happen (a massive explosion?) and ends up 8 years in the past.
That's all the time travel. Since you awoke 8 years in the past you are the time stranger.
Presumably, your goal is to set things right and prevent whatever will happen 8 years later.
