Please let me see how much damage my combo does!
Let me just say to start off I love how much I love the combo system works in this game! The exponential damage scaling really encourages you to weigh risk and reward of how comfortable you are in not getting hit before cashing out your combo. Getting a huge combo lets you end the fight a lot sooner than if you were doing smaller combos, but it's also a gamble since you lose it all if you get hit! I found this super fun over the course of the game, since I'd have to make a split second decision about how confident I was I could keep a combo going whenever a particularly difficult section arose.

Although a slight problem I have is that unless you're fighting enemies in the arena, you don't know for sure how much damage your current combo will do. In general if your goal is to just win the fights and play through the game this isn't really that big of an issue, at worst it's a just a minor annoyance when you want to end an encounter as fast as possible (such as when fighting the same type of enemy multiple times)

Where I think it's a bigger problem is with the "One hit kill" achievements. Many times when playing through the story I would find myself fighting an enemy, getting what I thought was a large enough combo, just for it to barely not kill. I'd try again, this time building up an even bigger combo (for example going from a combo of 60 to a combo of 100) to see I did way more damage than needed! I found not knowing if my current combo would kill or not pretty annoying since it lead me to have to redo fights when the combo barely didn't kill, or just spend a lot more time in general building up a much bigger combo than needed just to make sure it killed.

TLDR: Overall I loved playing through this game! The combat is super satisfying and engaging, but it just feels like not knowing if your current combo will kill is a weird design decision. One that is especially frustrating when you're going for achievements but also just a bit annoying for general gameplay

Yeah i somewhat agree. Sometimes i spend more then 10 minutes on one fight without dying, just trying to collect the damn combos and i end up overshooting the damage every time because im too afraid to undershoot... Would be so much better to see your current damage. But at the same time its a gamble, its always a nice feeling when its enough damage instead of already knowing you won. So im not sure.

yeah it's completely baffling how they changed the no hit achievements into one hit kills, and then didn't let you know when your combo is actually going to kill. but i guess that's not surprising considering the amount of thought, or lack thereof, that went into the game as a whole
Interestingly, the arena mode -has- a damage counter.

I wish it wasn't exclusive to the arena mode.
