The story is not as good as everhood 1 and ends rather abruptly, also you don't have to kill everyone.
it is offensively bad. it has no structure; things just kinda happen because lol so random xd
Just about 3.2 hours in so haven't seen it all seeing how seems its a at minimum 8 hour game, yep could be longer depending on how slow you do but so far it seems it be at least 8 hours long, so you may want to take my comment with a pinch of :steamsalty:. But yeah the story within so far i've done has left me somewhat disappointed, almost as the creators didn't fully grasp why people (myself included) loved the past cast of characters from the 1st.

It seem to be showing you new characters instead rather then giving you a chance to connect with them. As most don't seem to be returning, some do but so far lot stays in that world only. I think the best way i can describe whats instore from what i've seen is like watching a mini ep. You know those kinda of kid shows where each ep doesn't connect with each other much or not at all and what ever happens normally gets wiped like nothing happened for the next ep to start fresh again. Thats what the story within acts like the most or at least thats how i've been seeing it.

Not to say its not enjoyable story at all, it is still enjoyable to take in, as it's not that bad and the funny stuff is welcomed to keep the pace of the game from becoming too dull as it has lot more funny within then what we had in 1. But to me at least seems i'm more playing / enjoying more for the gameplay / music aspect then the story.

So to end off, yeah i wouldn't go in to expect as great emotional story telling as the first provided. Cause it hasn't been providing me with too much care into who you meet. I might be biting those words later tho as perhaps midway or little past midway point in the game it will picks up, there is still chance for redemption after all.

Edit: Like always will put out a steam review when i've hit the finish point so i guess if your reading this in the future you could perhaps in week or two find out if i did bite those words. :3

it doesn't make you kill everyone because the theme is not about liberation as it was in the first game. i thought the story was well crafted from a narrative perspective, but as far as traditional storytelling goes, it could be seen as lackluster, despite that being the point. i plan to write a review on the game that goes more in depth on this

The games themes heavily focus on abuse of power and karma. The whole time you fight people abusing their power or positions, such as slavers or strong warriors, but eventually you start to do just like they did and even attempt to become a god. This goes poorly when godhood is instead given to one of your friends who promptly kills the rest of your friends and rules the world from there. So naturally you fight him.

This does sound a little cool, but unfortunately, another one of the games themes are nihilism and that your choices cant affect rhe greater picture. After defeating him, instead of being able to take down Shade, the actual core of the problems, the game ends on happy music and then you have a dance battle with him, before he reverts time to send you back to before the final area of the game.

I loved the first game due the Story and then the boss battles along the music

As you encounter new bosses, they had a unique theme, you were fighting them through a whole arrangement before being able to actually kill them... or at least it let you listen to it before being able to actually kill them. Dunno, every song seems "long" enough to personalize each of the characters you encounter. Now, in this game, uh… it focusses on gaining XP so the songs are way shorter, you don’t get to familiarize with the character since is killing a few clones they put on your way, so, you don’t grow attached to them or get to know too much about them unlike the first game. I know I’m talking about the fights but…. The fights in the first game felt part of the story
Here? Fights seem rather impersonal and not being part of the story at all, just a battle to keep going and see what’s next

Speaking of such, the story seem lackluster in various aspects, since your purpose is bit of a confusion, you are being told a “lie” then finding the truth isn’t as shocking, just helping a few dudes as the game takes you to help them, it feels like… random happenings rather that having something coherent

I remember the first one takes you through a silly path, fun one, getting to know the characters, then having this twist and weird climax where you don’t know if you should keep going or rather, having to keep going!
And here….. is more like… eh… no twist, there aren’t enough dialogues to get attached too much to them, is like everyone is just doing their things, even the companion you have ends not having too much attachment to you to get shocked later….. I don’t know, I feel like the story is all convoluted (perhaps like this text, lol)

But yeh…. Still, fun game to play, love some of the joke, I just feel bit disappointed, I know is unfair to try to compare of what the first game was about and how the story went, but even if not comparing to the other game, the story is like………….. not that good written, this would be one of those games to play just because the battles are fun to play
Much better characters at the cost of a much worse overall story.

This game does an excellent job of setting up really interesting villains only for all but one to sputter out in their finale.

The overarching narrative is also a massive nothing burger unfortunately, making you feel like you did everything for nothing.

Who knows, there could possibly be a secret ending hidden that ties everything together and wraps it all up, but as of now, I would only play this for the solid gameplay.
