For single-player, there's the regular random map mode, but note that the longer 150-turn mode is bugged and will end after 100 turns.
I did a Web search for the issue. There doesn't seem to be a fix to my exact problem. There was one fix that was similar, but it required going into the files a rewriting some code. That just seemed a little too much for my expertise.
I successfully muscled my way through the single-player campaign despite the repeated crashes. I thought it was a good way to learn all the mechanics before wading into multiplayer games.
Then I went looking for a multiplayer game. The servers were dead both times I tried to find an online match. That being the case, I've given up on this game.
The main reason I picked this one up is to play a quick, online game that had qualities similar to Stellaris. Since that doesn't seem to be available, I don't see the point in continuing to troubleshoot this problem. In the meantime, I'll just stick with the Board Game Arena website until something better comes along.
