Also instead of a town you set up a building so you have to create the lower floors to some degree before you can build upwards.

I would so enjoy a sequel to that game. Every time I think 'What is the game I'd most like to see more of' - Medieval Conquest always pops up first. Dungeon Village 2 has a few similarities .. but I enjoyed the adult humor, being able to form parties, and how the economy worked (trading in monster pelts for gold, which they then spend on everything else). DV2 heroes don't seem to be as focused on getting better gear - and I can't seem to track their income (as they tend to just spend money infinitely).
End rant - to the OP - good luck on finding similar games.
Depending on what about this game - if you enjoy the overall autonomy of the heroes, but like having control over their homes.. There is an older game called Craft The World - it has a lot of crafting to be done - and doesn't have money involved .. but has a few similar vibes.
Damn theres a title i havent seen in a long time, I would 2nd this recommendation
