Jan 2022 - Rainbow six 3 gold edition , trying to launch game and get "Failed to initialize 3D hardware. Make sure DirectX 8.1b or greater is installed on your system" DIRECTX is installed i show DX12 under dxdiag, i have re-ran the directx setup from within rainbow six folder, i have uninstalled and installed the game.. still get the same error at trying to start the game, regardless from the start button or from the direct exe file,. tried sever compatibility modes.

Are you on Windows 10?

Additionally, if this crash happens immediately, try allowing Raven Shield.exe in your Windows UAC/Defender. It can block the game due to the games age on some peoples PC.

Another thing to try is disable the intro videos. https://allr6.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?id=38
Some codecs do not play on some peoples PC's

Did you try running Ravenshield.exe as admin?

Do NOT LAUNCH FROM STEAM. Launch from the shortcut on your desktop.

You shouldn't really need to install the old DirectX files manually. Most of us don't.

Mine is failing to change the resolution and crashes after 3 minutes. I am on Windows 11.

Got mine working but when try to create a LAN server.. (NOT INTERNET SERVER) it crashes with this: OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: AuthenticAMD Unknown processor @ 4377 MHz with 1023MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (7168)

Can't find file for package 'OpenRVS'

Have you tried the optimization patch yet? Either way, try editing StartFullscreen= to true or false the opposite of what you have it at now. See if that does it.
