R6 Raven Shield Gameplay questions
I'm a long-time Rainbow Six player on the original two games, Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear. I never got around to playing Raven Shield, so I thought I'd give it a go this past week. But there are a number of significant actions in the game that I can't figure out how to do. So I thought I'd reach out to an online community of Raven Shield fans to get some insight. Thank you in advance for your help!

1) In the original games, even R6 classic, when you set a go code action in the planning phase, the team members of the team you control will carry out that action if they can. For example, if you set a go code to breach a door, then a team member will set a breaching charge and blow it on the go code. In playing Raven Shield so far, every time I get to my team's go codes my team members do nothing. How does one get them to carry out the go code actions?

2) When giving in game instructions to my team, I'm sometimes want to have them breach a door. But I don't see a command to breach, only to open and clear. Am I missing something?

3) In both R6 classic and Rogue Spear, you can climb up on objects (e.g. when playing Iron Comet, you can climb up the boxes at the beginning of the mission to try and take out tangos from the roof of the shed). It looks like there is no climbing ability in Raven Shield. Is that correct?

4) My biggest frustration with Raven Shield is also the one I'm having the hardest time finding answers to. In both R6 Classic and Rogue Spear, you can put a team on hold and then switch to another team if need to do some rewriting of your plan on the fly. But in Raven Shield, every time I put my team on hold and switch to another team, the first team takes off and continues along their waypoints. I can make them stop only with "all teams hold," but then that holds the other team I'm trying to control, and holds teams maybe that I don't want to hold. So, if we're switching between teams that don't have immediate go codes to hold them, how do I get one team but not all teams to hold in place after I switch off of controlling that team?

Again, thank you all for your help and insight into getting the most out of this game!

This isn't a question, just a complaint, but what's up with changing the meaning of "incapacitated" in Raven Shield and not telling anyone?! I've only lost one person, but it's Timothy Hanley, and I wouldn't have if I'd known I wouldn't get him back. Bummer! There are a few design changes like this that I really don't understand why Ubi Soft made Red Storm do it.
I will let someone who plays single player help you out more if they see this. But you can feel free to post at http://www.R6CHAT.com its where everyone who plays this game is now. (And online coop is huge still with new content as well.)

As for climbing up on things, this depends on the map design. For instance, in my new maps that I design, you can certainly climb on some things, also hop into a helicopter, in a moving truck etc.

Regarding controlling your current AI backup team, for online coop anyway, here is some useful info: Controlling your AI backup : If 2 or less real people playing you both get 3 backup ai, if 3-4 people you each get 1 backup AI, and more than 4 people playing there are no backup ai.

You can give them commands press H to hold, J is for rules of engagement and you can hold down action key (space or f typically) on a door and see the options for Frag and clear, etc. If you right click to execute order command it will wait for you to press zulu go (, key) left click is immediate. This is useful when you dont have a planning phase set up. And you want them to go in one door or hallway while you go into another at the time same for example. Or, you can point up ahead and you will see the grey icon (white means you will do the action not them)
you can tell them to move ahead of you to clear a hallway and building for example while you cover them. Its quite tactical when used on the fly in addition to planning phase.

Hope to see you around the community more. Sorry I gtg and could not answer more at this time.

If you're controlling the team, you must do the breach. If you're not controlling the team and you've entered the command into the planning phase, the team will carry it out on their own.
I find having two different go codes before a door breach useful. The reason for this, is so they don't get ambushed while just waiting around to breach.

2) When giving in game instructions to my team, I'm sometimes want to have them breach a door. But I don't see a command to breach, only to open and clear. Am I missing something?

This isn't something you can do on the fly in Raven Shield unfortunately. You have do the breach yourself.

There's still climbing, but it's not quite as "open" as the original RS.

4) My biggest frustration with Raven Shield is also the one I'm having the hardest time finding answers to. If you use all team hold, and then use regular hold with your team, your team should follow you. Whenever you switch between teams, or even a member on a team sometimes, it tends to reset all hold commands and you have to re-issue everything.

Sorry I am just getting back to this, but thank you all for the very helpful comments. Raven Shield clearly had its shortcomings. I just hope we'll get more games like the original trilogy in the future. Again, really appreciate everyone who chimed in!

this wasn't exactly asked, but there's a very useful leapfrogging technique so you can make your own team hold sectors: Check it out here

I am sure you get many more decent answers if you cut your questions short a little, it's just too much text for people to spend time on and comprehend.

Short & effective is key.

If you want answers, feel free to add me. I am playing Rainbow Six now since the late 90s and might know one or the other thing about it, gameplay wise.
It's useful to understand even though Raven Shield is a great game, it is far from perfect. Try and learn what works for your playstyle; use the AI operatives as best as you can to help complete the missions.

Mission planning only really becomes effective after a level has been played through several times, to give you an idea of the layout, and what can work. If you are using go codes, you need to know where the teams are, and what actions they need to do in order to help you. This only comes with practise and understanding the level.

If your playstyle is to command a team yourself within the mission, then you should use flashbangs where-ever possible. The AI is notoriously unreliable at throwing flashbangs, so give yourself this action. Smoke grenades and breaching charges work well in the hands of the AI- they very rarely fail with these commands.

Normally the simplest approach works the best. Enjoy this great game.

They always make changes to games, in the original you begin with 11 agents. Most are best you'll ever have. Such as McAllen.. He's great at both assault and demo, but so is Chavez even though he's an Assaulter. Chavez excels at nearly everything, Chavez is the Elite of the Elite. Every other demolitionist received over the course of the game... is very poor at assault, so poor they are trivial, just like the electronic specialists. But that's why they're specialists, they suck at assault. :D. McAllen should be an assaulter just like Chavez. If they excel at assault they're an assaulter overall, every other skill is a secondary. BUT... whatever, that would make too much sense.

Anyway... part of the fun of the original was managing your agents and planning to coordinate minimize engagement and keep all of them alive.. Nearly every new agent did suck.. But the additional assaulters were welcome since their primary specialty was assault therefore they were good enough.

NOW! You start these games with not only ALL of the agents gained while playing the original.. I think they added new characters that you begin with rather than joining the team over the course of the game.

As for playstyle.. I excelled at close quarters, my favorite primary became the Franchi shotgun that operates in pump only within the game even though in reality it's a convertible :P It can fire semi-auto. Sure the idea is if you use a pump action you can better pace your shots due to a delay but why not choose another shotgun for that? Like a Mossberg 590?

ANYWAY! My sidearm of choice was the Sig P228.. Has the quickest recovery of all pistols.. So with those two guns you get maximum rapid fire with the best accuracy for the volume.

Let's be honest though.. Rainbow Six has always been plagued with A,I that some how always knows you and your team are there.. Very rarely can you sneak by them or catch them off-guard.

You must be talking and playing a different game than me as I can not agree with anything you have said.
Sorry if this was already answered... But I THINK as long as someone in your team is carrying a demo charge or a shotgun you can order them to breach the door with the shotgun or the charge. The option should only be there if a team member is equipped.

I don't think the command system is elaborate as it was in the others.. They wanted to make Raven shield more streamlined for the console players.

No, as I said earlier, you have to use breach charges yourself, unless it's already been setup in the planning phase.
