An android maker named Dauer ends up running afoul of another police branch (why there are multiple police departments is beyond me.) This other branch, headed up by a man named Richter, assaults Dauer, likely due to a recent android rebellion. But members of Stone's department get caught up in this assault and killed. Richter decides he needs to wipe out Stone and her squad. Stone discovers that the androids are in the right and stops fighting with them after killing dozens of their ranks.
Richter starts a full manhunt against Stone's squad, going as far as to assault her entire police department, which is something he's just allowed to do for some reason. He chases Stone down and she kicks him off a building, only for him to apparently survive somehow. I guess he's also an android maybe? And he attacks Dauer to keep his identity hidden? But Stone's boss has known him for years, so maybe the one that you see at the end of the game is the android? Or maybe there are multiple Richter androids?
Anyway, Stone kills everybody that comes after her and holes up in a hotel room to talk to her son on the phone one last time. Richter and Stone's boss kill each other in the boss's office, which he's still hanging out in even after the entire building was massacred. The story ends with Stone's hotel room being converged upon by a bunch of the same weak-ass cops she's killed by the hundreds with ease. I think it's implied that there's no way out for her and that she'll die for sure, but, again, she's repeatedly overcome worse odds.
I'm sure someone can piece together something better by paying close attention to the game's details and the notes you pick up, but I honestly didn't care enough about the plot to put in any more effort. Absolutely garbage storytelling regardless.
Hanna Stone used to be a mercenary. She committed war crimes and was sent to prison. Released to work for the Hong Kong Police special task force Zombie Squad by old mercenary buddy who is the police Chief.
First missions is to stop a robbery at Dauer Synthetics. The mission at Dauer shows off their androids and stuff (classic misdirection). A private Security force lead by Richter comes after Hanna's team with some kind of vendetta after that mission. Find out later that security force is going to replace the police and Richter is an old war buddy of the police Chief. At the end of that mission wonder why the robbers stole paper money which is basically worthless. Later Dauer's stock plummets.
Get back to the police station and collapse. Have an anime flashback about a young rocker chick Hanna. Then have a flashback about a old domestic violence case where Hanna kills a man who killed his wife. There was a kid in his room and Hanna sits down and watches TV with him for a bit.
Documents show that Hanna sends generous donations to an orphanage. Maybe it is for the kid from that flashback.
Next mission you go to break up some android protest. They are all armed so you just start killing them because hey they are just toasters. But start wondering why these toasters have tattoos and stuff. The leader of the toasters has a girlfriend. Capture the girlfriend and bring her in for interrogation. She ask for a smoke. Androids smoke? Kinda weird. Android girlfriend claims to be human. Yeah sure whatever. Find out that she is connected to a person Hanna arrested and interrogated before. Doc runs some test on the Android while you go to question this other guy.
Go to the club to question the other guy and he says some concerning things. There are dangerous jobs but someone has to do them. He tries to get the drop on Hanna but she is Han Solo. Blood on the dancefloor your way to the roof and Ghost in the Shell fight optic camouflage assassin (BEST FIGHT IN THE GAME). Richters 2nd in command shows up and you jump in a chopper to get away. While in the chopper Doc tells you that the test show that the android is actually a human. A cyborg though they don't say that outright.
Richter meets with the police chief in his office. They shoot each other. Chief sends one last text to Hanna telling her to LEAVE NOW or something I forget. The private security force attacks the police station directly to wipe out zombie squad. Fight your way through the police station and kill the 2nd in command dude who has a twin.
Fight through the streets ending with a fight against Richter himself. Turns out he is basically Raiden in Revengence so getting shot was nothing to him. CYBORG FIGHT!!!!!!
Ending scene with Hanna in a hotel room talking to a woman who works at an orphanage. The woman tells Hanna that the kid ain't even hers quit callin, thanks for the money though. Hanna just wants to talk to him. The kid ask if it's Hanna on the phone and ask to talk to her. They share some kind words. Enemies are closing in on Hanna's location so she says her goodbyes and loads her weapon.
Roll credits.
After credits scene! Anime flashback with young Hanna Stone who's real name is Emma Lautner. Her son has some kind of sickness. I forget if they say what it was. Anyway she goes to work for this shady company she heard about from a friend. They will take care of the doctor bill if Emma works for them. They tell her she will wake up someplace far away with a different name and no memory. She agrees and they tell her to take some pills.
This is where you have to figure that she gets turned into a cyborg and does mercenary work. Remember how earlier the guy in the club says there are jobs that have to be done even if no one wants to do them. No matter if it is dangerous or inhumane. You have to figure that either the tech isn't there to make androids good enough to do these task or that it is just cheaper to mind wipe some humans and give them some implants instead. You have to assume that forensic reports after the massacre of the androids in the protest would get out to the public. Dauer no doubt knew that protest would happen and how things would turn out. So they robbed their own company and dumped their stock before news got out.
This is a cyberpunk story. Notice the homage paid to things like Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner throughout. Think of the android workers as the Nexus-6 replicants. More human than human.
So before writing the story off maybe make an effort to understand it.
Also I do not understand the part of the of them robbing their own company and how it's related by dumping their stocks, we know dauer got bankrupt but we don't know how. and why.
August is not the android/cyborg leader, his girlfriend actually is. her profile says so anyhow.
hannah does not go han solo, her police buddy does.
But overall good recap and i also think the story is pretty great, just unfinished. it feels like season 1 of a tv show, it just stops when it gets interesting. hopefully we get a DLC or sequel to continue the story, but chances are slim i would say.
The paper money/bankrupt part is still unfinished. it think it would get explained once the story moves on. its very common in those cop movie scenarios that everything starts with a simple case that at the very end gives the conclusion. so i assume thats what they are going for here. Lets hope they get the chance to finish their story.
That could make sense, but the way is told in the game is almost impossible to be understanded.
could that be true? maybe. but to just outright say something like that and than back-peddle and double down about it being an opinion is just asinine.
