In reading more about an abandoned game.
Someone on the Team should be writing up a news article to let players know that this game is "still being worked on". It is very bad for business, when a Developer company decides to abandon a game. But, not tell anyone while continuing to sell the game!
This tactic really destroys the reputation of said development company. Because players will 'remember' the developers. Not just their studio business name; but also their actual names.
Because failed studios tend to 'start a new business name' some years later. Like a new coat of paint. But, half the time players are savy enough to check out the actual Team designers. And not just "the name of the company". If we see names that have screwed us over in the past. We will not touch anything more that they make.
So it really hurts developers and sometimes even the game designers. When they get too greedy. And keep trying to sell a game; that they KNOW has been abandoned. Thus selling a understood buggy or unfinished game to the market.
And, sadly, STEAM games does allow this to happen. Which is another big problem.
Because it allows scammer DEV companies to basically keep taking money from players, even though they have walked away from the game.
Another game on here that is currently scamming players is from PARADOX Studios.
Their STAR TREK game. A terrible game that was abandoned. Yet the company went silent and still tries to trick/ scam players into buying their unfinished buggy product. On STEAM. But, over the last year a lot of loyal players walked away from Paradox games for good. Me being one of them.
It really hurts the business and the 'names' of the people working on said games.
Silence is the worse thing to do. The developers of this game should really come out with an updated NewsLetter.
Steam are working on cracking down on Devs abandoning games unfinished but its difficult.
Don't start me on Paradox.
Some of the best games I have ever played were published by them. I still play classic games like Mount and blade, Majesty 2 and Restaurant Empire 2 every year or so.
I got burned by Supporting 'Surviving the aftermath' with the pre-release bundle with all the DLC. When each DLC was released they put both the game and the DLC on sale and it worked out to be MUCH cheaper to buy them on sale than all the original supporters paid and I vowed to never ever buy a game they published ever again.
Surviving the aftermath also had very little value from the DLC which was insanely overpriced for what people got in terms of value and the game was launched and then ignored and abandoned before anyone felt it was finished. The entire thing just felt like a massive cash grab and I lost all the respect and trust I had for Paradox.
I always avoid Early access games now unless they are insanely good purely because of the way Paradox essentially took a massive dump and shat all over their loyal customers who purchased the game because they had faith in the company.
Land of the vikings has just been unseen black ice frosting on top of the Paradox dump that has also put me off Early access games.
Indeed. I read you.
