I own it. I got it along with a Tom Clancy's Counter Terrorism classics pack along with Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear. It's ok for a 2002 game I suppose but I never stuck with it too long. It's a tactical shooter just like the other two that came with it. One thing I didn't like was the way the camera is first-person but in a weird way. I mean, it seems like your not really moving like a human would....if that makes any sense. I got this 3-pack for $5.99 in a bargain bin some years ago for the original Rainbow Six. But even RS seems to have the same kind of camera. I guess what I'm saying is, it just seems too outdated to enjoy it the way I would back when it came out. Could be I'm just jaded or too impatient to go back and play these older games, exept for the ones I grew up on.

So, is it worth it? I would say yes if it were under $2.00.

It just fails to keep your attention imo.

^ The thing with the camera is that it's first-person but doesn't show the weapon you're holding. That's it. It's not a big deal. The game is still the same as it would be, just better vision because the gun isn't on your screen. Either which way, I haven't played it, but people seem to not like it by comparison to Rainbow Six. I'd keep your distance.

Wow, thanks. I haven't been back to this topic since I posted it and it's a group command based game. I don't like those games. I have a hard enough time, commanding myself. :D:

I haven't played this game since it was released way back in the day, and I barely remember actually playing it at that. However, I do seem to remember that it was relatively fun. It's not like there were many options for this kind of game at the time. So, we were kind of starving for good squad based tactical games. There was Ghost Recon from a year ealier, and it was a similar game to RS. However, it was a much slower paced game and required a lot more patience and down time to play.

I'm going to get some flack for saying this, but whatever - this is more or less the unofficial Rainbow Six 2. It only has "The Sum of All Fears" name so that it could piggy back on the marketing of the film, which had a substantial budget as it featured big name actors and such, and also because it was missing probably the best feature of the RS brand: planning. They simply didn't want to compromise expectations. That's okay, though, because they had other plans.

Gameplay wise, it is a solid game and is a lot of fun as long as you're not expecting it to be the be all end all squad tactical game. It's feature lite, but it still has the Tom Clancy stamp of quality. It featured a much faster pace than the original Rainbow Six, but by then, games had already started moving out of the "simulation" style of gaming that most old schoolers were accustomed to.

Some of the features concerning TSoAF is that it was basically an inbetween experiment from the old tech of RS and the new tech of RS3. You'll notice that there was never a RS2. Well... this is that game. At the time, the big thing to accomplish on the 'To-Do List" was to figure out a way to manage the team. This game featured a simplified version of team orders that would later be improved upon in RS3. Prior to this, RS featured zero team management outside of the planning stage, and Ghost Recon's well made system was quite cumbersome at best.

And... that's really the big deal with the game. It was the game that introduced team management and orders while in the game space. It was simple, but it was effective. Other than that, it's essentially Rainbow Six with better graphics, team management, and a lack of planning phase.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info but, this type of control your team based gaming is not really for me and as a matter of fact, I forgot all about this game. :D:

I liked Future Soldier but, I got stuck in a mission where I need 3 more players to get through a town without being discovered and it never happened. I had some friends that helped prior to that but, one deleted me as a friend for reasons unknown, after I helped him get his stolen account back and the rest followed. I've considered the game as a loss and wasted money and uninstalled it. I, more or less, like fps shooters where I don't have to give commands to AI.

I know this comment is old, but what the hell are you talking about? Rogue Spear is Rainbow Six 2.

You also seem to talk down about Ghost Recon, even though it was a hell of a lot better than this game. If you're the biggest fanatic on the planet about Tactical Shooters, this game is a 7/10 at best. Overall, I'd say it's closer to a 6. All of its features pale in comparison to the titles it's similar to, and the AI is pretty glitchy.

For 10$ I'd say it's worth a purchase if you're into the genre, especially if you have a friend you can play it with, since it has coop.

^ Yeah, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear was the sequel to Rainbow Six. Not only that, but they made several expansions to Rogue Spear (Urban Operations, Covert Operations, Black Thorn). You could also command your team in some ways in those. You could give breach orders, defend orders, flash & clear, hold orders, etc.
