Who are the kinglings?

Some depend on the profession picked; though they either eat the kiwi carrier guys or you click em.

kinglings are the little creatures that spawn behind a carpentry king

I only saw a little (dark) creature behind him once.
After that, didn't see it again, only the big guy.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for summoning additional kings? It's hard to time mousing over the counter, waiting for the animation of the button to pop up, and click 5 times before the main king dies.
