odd demo, not sure what they want us to judge
Unless I missed something, they just plop you in the desert with no story goals so I have no idea whats going on on that front.

Theres no XP so I can't get a feel for what leveling is like, or what kind of challenge I will be able to set up for myself since all the enemies are the same level (and easy).

The random crap I'm finding as loot cant be used for anything in the demo so Idk how exciting it is to find a "standard sensor" or whatever.

As far as core gameplay of roving around and killing stuff its ok, lot of the weapons feel kinda meh mostly lacking in the sound effect department. Enemies really offer no threat cause you can just kite them and fire at range. Vehicles don't have much granular or mechanical feeling control so they are pretty simplistic to drive.

This didn't really do much to make me want to buy the full game. I'll still keep an eye on it, cause I love the artstyle and desert environments but this demo was meh.

Actually, you can know a lot from the story just listening to the NPC chit chat. The demo goal is to fix the Radio station. They want you to see how theres no clear goal, you must explore to find things (like zelda botw and TOTK), and the gameplay mechanics. Thats actually a pretty good demo btw :apex_lifeline:

I agree that the demo is kinda meh. They really don't give you a clear direction, and yes I found the radio tower to fix, but without the items to repair it and no direction as to where they are, it meant I was right back to wandering around fighting packs of the same handful of enemy types again.

Not that that wasn't fun for a bit, mind you, but given the enemies drop nothing and don't give XP, there's really nothing driving you to play for long. BotW and TotK have tons of breadcrumbs to entice you to explore and reward you constantly for doing so. Here, there's really just kind of nothing except combat.

But yeah, it's a demo, so to that end I just looked at it as a showcase of some of the basic gameplay and combat, which I did enjoy, and when the full game presumably has actual progression, the endless wandering and exploration will be more naturally compelling, I'd assume.

I guess they just wanted us to get a feel for the handling of different vehicles and combat, but yeah it is really hard to judge when there is no danger of failure/death. Would've been nice to include at least a few different quests/quest types too.

the demo is just to test the sandbox, and like a little performance benchmark
