Checkpoints work terribly
The game shows a save icon, but almost every time I exit the game, my climbing progress rolls back 3-5 minutes. This is terribly annoying. And the game never tells you whether a location is a checkpoint or not. This is very bad and what’s “funny” is that there is no reason for such a problem to exist.

Yea exactly, it should at least give you "the game was saved 2:14 minutes ago" warning. Pretty annoying.
Agreed! I've quit multiple times after seeing the save icon and then resumed and I'm not in the same spot. Because a lot of the game looks similar, it can also be difficult to remember where you were up to

I agree, I replayed several parts of several chapters because of quitting and thinking my progress had been saved. I recommend trying to play all the way through a chapter at a time if you can (and quitting at the beginning of a new chapter), each one can be completed in an hour even at a slow pace. IMO, all games should have a manual save option.

The save icon also goes away pretty quickly. In my entire run, I only managed to catch a glimpse of it maybe a couple of times.

Holy sh*t this is stupid. How are one to even know wtf this game saves your progress. The damn save icon pops all over the place:steamfacepalm:

There is nothing to save, though. The game is kinda stateless.
The checkpoints are placed at the beginning of each section, there are multiple sections per chapter.

Position on the map, letters found, the rock pile things, the spinning things. All of that is a measure of progress in the game (and could be saved).

I noticed it saved a fresco I highlighted on a secondary path forward where a checkpoint was.
Even though quitting the game put me back at the beginning of the section as usual, going back to the fresco I found it already highlighted.
It seems to keep track of the collectibles.

saving progress doesn't really help you when it have a checkpoint at the bottom of a long climb sequence and you running around after it looking for the "collectables" seeing the save "anim" several times and still not having a faintest clue where tf the checkpoints are.

I found that it saved letters I had found, but they still show up as new when I encounter them.
Also shells reappeared. No idea if they are still marked as collected by the game because you can't see those in the menu.
