How does DLSS work in this game?
There are no conventional quality presets: Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance. It's just a resolution scale bar without any indication (like a resolution percent) as to what the internal resolution is. Either include that, or give us the conventional DLSS presets. Thank you.

depends on your monitor on what DLSS setting you need to put it on. All these presets are in every game that supports DLSS the same and work as following:
If you have a monitor with this res. :
1080p = put DLSS on Quality
1440p = put DLSS on Balanced
4K = put it on Performance
8K = Ultra performance

There are no presets, did you even read my post? That's the whole issue. I know how DLSS works.

Personally I prefer more control. A slider would work just fine, provided they give a readout on what the actual resolution is being set to internally (for example, if you set the meter at half and you're running the game at 4k, half resolution would mean 2 different things depending if they're talking about resolution % or per-axis %).

Despite the fact that it's a "render resolution" scale, I suspect that they're measuring using the per-axis approach. This means 3840x2160 would render internally at 1920x1080p if you slide the bar down to 50%, assuming I'm correct about their approach.

Either way, you can follow this as a guide if you're wanting to recreate the exact presets that most games use by default:

Quality - 66.6% (2/3) per axis, 45% resolution

Balanced - 58% per axis, 33% resolution

Performance - 50% per axis, 25% resolution

Ultra Performance - 33% (1/3) per axis, 11% resolution

This game is really bad about listing numbers with their sliders, and this goes for DLSS and HDR settings. If you want to see exactly what internal resolution the scale is set to you can use SpecialK to tell you. The GamePass version just got DLSS this morning and I used SpecialK to help me dial it in to "Quality" equivalent, or 2560x1440 for a 4K output.

Yeah I completely agree, a slider is far better than just having presets (like in starfield if you mod DLSS in). I ended up eyeballing 66% and called it a day. If its less, idc, if its more idc. The game runs at a good 100+ now 90% of the time so I'm happy. Really hope they add a resolution % value though.

I'll give this a look, thank you! And good that they added DLSS to gamepass, was really dumb that the gamepass version didn't have it in the first place. Pretty much the only reason I bought the game on steam lol

DLSS does nothing when i turn it on. Same FPS as TSR. FSR 2 is working like a charm, even tho I have an 4070. Kinda weird.

I definitely noticed an fps bump when I turned it on. I don't have a high end card like you though (RTX 3080) so maybe I'm less CPU limited so I noticed a jump?

Just to let you know, those graphics cards are nearly identical in performance. In fact, the 4070 has only about 1% better effective speed than 3080 according to userbenchmark dot com. Why? Well, Nvidia is funky with their naming scheme. The cards ending in 80 are a more powerful lineup than the ones ending in 70, so a 4070 is an upgrade over the 3070, but the 3080 can still match its performance. Give your GPU some love, it really is very high end, being the one of the most powerful GPUs on the market :)

Userbenchmarks.com is not a reliable source of information.

Wow what a great post and I mean this with all sincerity. I absolutely only thought of it as the percentage of the render so 3840×2160 would drop to about 2k and it's quite possible it could be 1080p or 1/4th the pixels (using your performance preset figures). I never thought of the other calculation consideration.
