"Any unsaved progress will be lost"
How am I supposed to know what progress is unsaved? The time since last save should always accompany this message.

Definitely a mechanic they could have addressed easily. It's the white diamond emblem cycling in the top-right corner of the screen. It doesn't explicitly say "Saving" or "Checkpoint Reached", but that's what the indicator is for.

that stupid thing saves all over the place, but its impossible to know if its checkpoint or not.
Horrible moronic save system.

I'm loving this game but, yes, the saving. First time I played I thought it saved whenever I read something because the icon appears. That doesn't appear to actually be saving of *the game*, only of having read something. So now I assume it's only when I *haven't* interacted with something that the icon does actually mean saving.

I think a manual save would be a real improvement. Or a save whenever you leave the game at least. I don't like having to choose between going to bed late and having to repeat really fiddly climbs all over again the next time I pick the game up!

It saves all the time but the checkpoints are not where it saved.
It's usually at the beginning of a "section". There are several sections per chapter.
tbh I found it easy to accurately guess when I was entering a new section.

Something like that should not be up to the player to "guess". The game should just tell you, it's absic QoL.

I never actually needed to use a previous save point yet anytime I needed to exit the game I always was at the place I left it or no more than 1min away, the game saves a lot, unless you exit while climbing chances are good you will "respawn" where you left-off

I have actually come across a fairly frustrating problem with this. There seems to be some kind of memory leak in the super windy climb at the beginning of chapter 5(?). The longer I stay in the sequence, the lower the frame rate drops and it's just dropped from 60 FPS to 3 FPS (let's just say I'm not the most adept at this bit of the game), rendering the game unplayable (it cannot respond to commands fast enough to get through the sequence). The only way to get the frame rate back to normal is to exit to the main menu and, of course, when you go back, all the progress has been lost because there's no manual save.

I think I also experienced this. The frame rate became really choppy for me, I had to restart the game for it to return to normal. But I assumed it was a g-sync issue on my end

I just finished the game and it kept happening in chapter 5. From what I could work out from WHEN it was happening, I think there's something wrong with the wind mechanic. It starts off fine but then the longer it goes on the more the frame rate tanks. That's either a memory leak or some kind of runaway code to do with calculating the wind physics (I guess) that progressively eats itself and never gets flushed out once it's gone wrong, even when you leave the windy areas.

I can confirm this Problem in Chapter-5

Agreed. Just started the game today and saw there was no manual save so specifically waited until I read a note and saw the save icon, thinking I was good.Nope turns out that doesn't save my character's position in the level, only the fact that I got the collectible. Annoying, but now I know.

Definitely agreed. I hope the developers address this. As proposed above, the minimum would be indicating the time since the last save. The game is wonderful, but that is really hindering the experience

It's typical DontNod tomfoolery. I don't think any of their games have a proper save function. I doubt they'll fix it.
