The problem with giving people this kind of advice is that they'll look up the "pro builds" and try to just copy without understanding why certain decisions are made. Some of them are not good choices during leveling--like taking a core talent that gives a ton of crit damage when you have no crit because you're still on t3-5 affixes and crap legendaries. Instead, that "+20% additional damage" node would do a lot more for you while you push.
Learning how things work is way more important that trying to follow trends.
No. It just tells me to stop playing the game. If a build I created and has done really well can't beat a boss that damn bad, despite wrecking every other boss, it's time to move on. I'm not going to bother with meta this or meta that. The boss could barely damage me and my potions recharged before I could use them all. Yet in the second phase I only lost because of the timer, which instantly kills you. Then it tells you to farm gear. Farm where?! The only place I can farm for gear is a treasure cove that's three levels below me. Nothing it drops is an upgrade for me.
It's not a game problem. Your build isn't optimized at all if you can't outdps this boss. Everyone else did it on fresh start when season began and had no issue. Stop looking outward to blame and start looking inward for solutions.
