This is what I find beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I have 2 heroes unlocked, played both seasons and got most of the Hero Emblems. They add far more heroes than you are able to unlock via Hero Emblems.
You get to level 55-60 in about 5 hours. If you focus, you can get to level 80 in another 5 or so. If you know what you're doing with crafting and buying from the trade house, you can probably do that portion faster, and have a chance of getting to 90.
But at the very least, you should try to get to level 70 because you can get the hero emblems for a partial character at least.
But you're running out of time. Hope you don't have to work. Truthfully, at this point, just buy the character pack. Your window has closed probably. You can still get the hero emblems next season, but you will not be able to use the pay characters without first playing a different character then. 980 primocryst is not expensive - you get 2 characters with the first purchase. Or like I said, start playing the game until you get them, which can be done if you focus and play all day. You literally got 24 hours at this point.
Truthfully, you don't have to own every hero/trait. But frankly, with stash space being free, they have to make money somehow since objectively the pets are not very impactful. Characters are legitimately where most people are going to put their money. And that's a good thing - I'm sure I can speak for most people when I say I don't want the pets to be impactful.
At the end of the day, you can think of the game as an optional subscription service where if you spend $15-20 every 3 months, you can obtain most of the characters. It's not that expensive considering the quality and value of the content they are providing to you during this 3 month period. Using either the character shop or the battle pass + hero emblems, you will get most of the characters. And you don't even HAVE to do this either - you can just play the free characters too. Honestly, this is very pro consumer and not worth complaining about. Diablo 4 is like $89 canadian, and everything thinks that is A-okay - but everyone loses their ♥♥♥♥ when a character costs $10.
Are you the type of person to stick to the same build every single season? If you are, then I understand. I am not. I played 3 builds Season 1 and played 2 builds Season 2. I'm not touching any of those 5 builds Season 3.
No but I also don't see myself playing more than 1 hero/season. If you get enough emblems to buy a new one every season, it should be fine. Even if I have to pay for 1 hero/season, it's not a big deal.
Also, they do release extra abilities for free every season. For example, i payed Minions build in season 1. Now in season 3 they added new minion type, so i can jump in and play it for free.
But if i want new fresh hero - must pay money. Heroes from Season 2 are now available for me to purchase for currency i farmed in season 1. But i don't care about them, so will save it for later seasons.
Something like that. AND YES, there are pets which increase DROP RATES of everything, so it is pay to win.
The Hero Emblems are unlocked at certain intervals in the season pass by spending $14.99 and is required to unlock the ability to earn Hero Emblems. Five Hero Emblems are given at Level 10, 25, 35, 45, and 50, while Level 60 will give 10 Hero Emblems. That makes a total of 35 Hero Emblems that can be earned by achieving Level 60 in the season pass.
Additionally if you want to it's $19.99 to get the pass and 10 levels already unlocked.
Progressing through the season pass requires completing daily challenges and weekly challenges. Some of the challenges include simply logging in, reaching a certain character level within the season, and defeating specific bosses or enemies. You'd need to achieve Level 60 in the season pass. three times to unlock 1 hero as the cost is 100 Hero Emblems.
