I don't understand the combat
and I guess this is far from surprising.

Keep trucking my guy, you'll get it! They could however use a few tutorials done in the abnormality style. It'd clear up a lot of confusion about speed and some of more niche game mechanics.

The combat in this game didn't click with me until after I already completely finished the first chapter. Check out the guide section. There's a few of them that explain the mechanics pretty well.

Two types of combat.

Against most human foes the game picks targets for you (exception being some egos like Ishmael who will always target the last unit).

Against supernatural foes and beefy humans, the game lets you select targets.

Also always read the fine print on foes, as the game progresses enemies might end up with an essay of passives that change how you tackle the fight.

This is the guide that helped me the most when I first started out.

Honestly i didn't even read this guide I'm played me being like winrate button go boom but then i read the in-game abilities to know how to play better but this game is UNGA bunga friendly in the start

The game has minimal in-game tutorial, the guide linked will be good --- but I think it's the kind of game that is best played by pretending the damage/winrate buttons don't exist.

Trying IDs, skills and stuff out and just... figuring it out. (Well, that's what I find fun in a lot of things that let me do it)

The combat system isn't complex, but it's unique.
