(Even if he does hit an ally, they can ussually take the hit, and his SP resets to 0. Or not equipping E.G.O has him panic and be staggered for a turn instead, I heard.)
Wouldn't worry too much about it in the end, as far as blunt damage goes he's unbeatable. That 30>30>30 move just one-shots most things for Gods sake... :P
It's power at a price, but the power is overwhelming, and the price is a absolute bargain. (Jeez, even as positive sanity he's a powerhouse. His rolls get stronger the less Coins he has left, needing VERY high enemy numbers to ever get through his skill 2 and 3.)
Basically yeah he's pretty easy to work with so long as you have some form of sanity regeneration.
Suppose it doesn't get much better then Broken Boi, Slash Hong Lu and Rabbit Heath as the Mirror Dungeon starter team. The ultimate Blunt, Slash and Pierce damage IDs respectively.
Haven't even found his sanity gains/losses all that troublesome in MDs, either he goes up and he's still an above-average damage dealer and insane clash winner, or it goes down and he one-shots EVERYTHING, occassionally smacks an ally, and the cycle repeats.
He's so damn good, I totally expect a nerf sooner or later...
Sinclair on average makes md runs slower compared to optimal teams. Its like self imposing challenge to make him perform well there. He doesn't perform that great in daily human fight either, not enough time to reach negative sanity and can brick and go into positive instead.
He is pretty much there for hard fights that take a lot of turns and have progress transfer. Which is pretty much just a railway for now. But he's still good investment and should perform well in the next season if difficulty even goes up. As a part of anti blunt team at least.
