basically carmen is grade A lunatics. actually glad that angela sabotage it. so its all ayin and carmen fault.

I think the goal for the light was originally to give hope to the people and (in rare cases) allow people to awaken their EGO. Carmen, however, after she died and her nervous system was extracted, was still aware in some ways and came to the conclusion that distortions were people's true selves. So once the light was released she started influencing people to become distortions and the people that resisted her gained EGOs. Angela sabotaging the light restricted Carmen's influence a bit but not too much.

TLDR, they originally had a good goal but Carmen, now part of the light, changed her goal in the period of gathering enough energy to release the light.

Keep in mind though that this is what I think happened, I'm not 100% sure if that's what happened.

Ayin did nothing wrong. Everything is still going according to plan. With his new E.G.O. power, he'll have the ability to rewind Carmen's death and reconcile with Angela. He just has to find his head. Where ever it is.

So there is my interpretation of what has happened.
The city dwellers were suffering from a disease of the mind, which Yesod described as an inability to feel certain emotions and have certain feelings. To fix this, Ayin decided to use Lobcorps singularitys ability to manifest the human mind and create light. Light is a substance that can seep into the human mind and deposit its content inside. Timeloop was needed to get perfect light composition by injecting Ayins ideas into light in a moment of the perfect state of mind. Notably, Ayin predicted that faulty light would lead to a distortion phenomenon and even took it into account in his scenario. But then Angela stole part of the light, most likely one that was mostly connected to Ayin, given that EGO, which she manifested from this, was basically the same as Ayins. That messed up the composition of light and led to distortion phenomena. EGO manifestation is unclear since we do not know how Kali manifested it in the first place. It might be Ayins effort, as some people believe, or it might be that the process of manifesting own EGO is similar to what light does to people.
Also, if Rolland didnt stop Angela at the end of Lor, it would probably not have fixed anything since, by that point, the light was already polluted by guests emotions and experiences as well as Angelas own desires.
