Portrait of a Certain Day in Mirror Dugeon

So... Is there any particular reason for why we don't get extra action slots going solo against the boss in Mirror Dungeon? I mean. there is no information in the boss passives that says it locks each unit to a single slot.

I managed to reach the final fight of a MDH Solo run with Lantern Yi Sang and it happened to be "Portrait of a Certain Day." However for some reason I'm not getting extra action slots in the fight. It stays stuck at 1.
I can even get smacked and survive enough turns to the point he just summons the portraits, or even go as far as staggering it by spamming EGO corrosion due to the perma low Sanity. But even when he is staggerd or after destroyin the portraits I do not get any extra slots out of that.

Man I was just this last fight close to finishing the run, and now I can't because of this. In fact I could even kill it by out healing its damage if was not for the instant KO we get when he puts max Sink stacks. :(

I MADE IT!!!
After several attempts of tryharding and a huge help from RNG gods to win the clashes against Sinking Deluge I was finally able to defeat the boss with a single action slot and finish this challenge run.
I think It would probably be a lot easier if I had acess to Zwei Ishmael and Gregor, but nonetheless, thanks to the perfect EGO gifts rolls combination it was still manageable. And also to Sunny Days EGO, otherwise the run would be doomed. Obviously went through the easy route earlier, but I still ended up facing Spiral of Contempt at Floor4 and almost died to it, and then this one last. GG.

I recorded the footage too, but it is around 4 hour long. It will take some time to cut all the fails, loadings and upload it.
