Hey uh why does Solemn Lament Yi Sang (Butterfly Yi Sang) deal that much damage
Ok to be fair I'm using him on a sinking team with a lot of sloth and gloom, but he just deals absurd damage and regenerates SP at an absurd rate. I guess if he has only one skill slot it's kinda balanced, but the second he has two or more all hell breaks lose.

Oh well time to retire spicebush yi sang forever I guess, sorry sinking deluge you will be missed

It is YI FUNERAL and you will respect it! Also Spice bush is better at nuking down a high health boss while this new idea is better at consistently nuking everything. It's literally just math honestly, 99x99 is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid numbers. I'd say for most content though you'll generally end up using Yi Funeral to much greater effect.

I assume you've been using him in the event? it's kinda designed to make him busted with the enemies being weak to both the damage type and Sin affinity of his S3, and the Captain buff giving him a monstrous amount of SP generation, automatic double-slot and a skill replacement.
in normal gameplay he's pretty ordinary, Deluge still makes Spicebush the better pick in MD.

he is a Pierce ID
In Future Diece team you would use Spice bush
when SL can go to Manor team

On top of this, the event makes the Training Team Captain apply more potency and count with every hit that applies a status effect
SL Sang doesn't seem particularly good at increasing overall count under normal circumstances, but he can reduce the amount consumed by his attacks

Well, there's three reasons.

One: Sinking just plain hurts. It's good damage vs targets who are vulnerable to it. Two: He has high rolls coupled with a positive offense level. If you're dumping his S3 from a full clip, he has 8+5 4 coins. That works out to only 8 less base damage than Nclair, before we even count his inherent damage amp. Three: he's typically doing up to 30 bonus damage per shot through his mechanics on a dedicated sinking team since it's REALLY easy to get Departed to hit its damage cap. Damage does indeed go brrrr.

He's more designed for fully built sinking teams as a capstone unit, due to being count negative and needing a constant flow of Gloom Resonance to function. But damn does he go crazy if you have the tools to make him work.

I used him in mirror dungeon and he's pretty terrifying there too. Mostly because with EGO gifts his S3 coin power conditionals start geting fulfilled on the 2nd hit or so, so the coin power literally goes up as the skill progresses, which is amazing. And his SP regeneration is high there too.

I do think he's a bit slower on high health bosses but with butterfly you can deal over 99 sinking damage per hit easily so it's kinda hard to weigh against deluge. Like yeah deluge deals more damage but having butterfly means every hit by an ally deals like 120 gloom damage which is still crazy high.

It's limited time stuff. Must be strong.
