It'll come someday
I wouldn't be surprised if they are heavily discussing how to implement the cost of a theoretical UT5 & TS5 that the community wouldn't have a melty again again
They are crunching the numbers on upgrading IDs vs making the player base explode in rage at having to grind more
So while UT4 would still cost thread and shards, UT5 would only cost that new resource of which you'd get enough for 1.5 upties per week or sth
(and maybe some thread idk, I didn't think too much about this)
I'm not saying they all need to be made top-tier, but actually making them functional would be nice. For example, taking Tremor off Zwei Southclair and Poise off Zweidion and giving them DLU instead. Or making early 000s actually roll like 000s instead of worse than 00s. But they'd better not touch Remnant Faust. She is absolutely perfect as she is.
but I 100% agree that older/weaker ids deserve better rolls/effects
(tho if we ever get uptie 5 i want ego backgrounds to linger for a round like in ruina)
You're not wrong. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Making UT4 a big step up from UT3 makes UT3 feel underpowered, and using UT4 to make bad IDs finally usable doesn't feel great either, but only increasing the numbers a little and not changing anything else feels completely empty. An additional tier would only worsen that already-difficult balancing act.
I don't think we'll be getting UT5 until the powercreep gets severe enough that currently-strong IDs need a big boost.
That'd be more of a TS5 thing, and for all we know it could happen separately from UT5, but it'd be rad.
That's a perfect mix. I can see us getting a new Uptie Rank for Chapter 8 with this logic, but we'll just have to wait and see.
It's very much a fact that a new uptie tier would be pretty harmful to the game since that'd compound the already existing problems with the grind, but it's the one thing we know.
But it's fine. Games with multiple characters will always have bad and good ones. You'll just have to accept, that most of the Identites from the first and a a half seasons are bad.
Uptie buffs can also be effects that help other allies instead of themselves. N-corp sinclair basically got jack to his personal kit in his UT4, rather than getting a buff that's impactfull to himself, he got a passive upgrade instead that gave allies in the same archetype +10% damage. And while it's not practical outside of N-corp teams, it's still worth while for a N-corp only team. UT5 Sinclair could get another buff that hardly does anything for himself, but instead gives his skills 'On Use' / "On Hit" effects that helps spread fanatic among allies or something.
So their are ways to making busted characters stronger, while not really buffing them in particular.
So i wouldn't worry to much about strong ID's being scaled even higher to the point that they make the weaker ID's feel even more worthless by comparison, as their are plenty of ways of upgrading units without making broken ID's, even more busted.
And i'm sure PM knows this because they seem to keep up with meta and game play styles. Which is why they are so darn cautious of rupture atm. And if they can buff BL Yi-sang from his pitiful UT3 status, to a remarkable UT4 Unit. There is plenty of hope down the line for existing units tor receive that same treatment.
