During its portrait fase it gets lots of resistances.
The "problem" is that it's also the only portrait that uses a block skill instead of an evade skill, so there's no purpose in paying attention to the flash.
Either way, those first three waves are supposed to be when you build your EGO resources. They aren't hard fights, or at least they aren't supposed to be. You can basically ignore all the gimmicks.
No, seriously though, get as much Sin as you can in those first three waves. Farm anything you know will be harder to collect later on, or sin you know you'll need (such as gloom/lust/pride for fluid sac)

Problem is, that portrait also happens to be the only one to use a guard skill so you don't actually have to pay attention when revealing it. Which means the puzzle is just
