The longer (but still short) answer is to save good ego for shutting down it's nastiest attacks. And bring someone with a wrath S1 that rolls 10 or less, so you can beat the skill check.
Then a lot of attacks with multiply coins.
This tactic worked for me both in railway refraction and hard mirror dungeon.
But i agree for unprepared player moth will be fatal. And even for prepared player meeting with moth at stage1 or stage2 (i got it at this stage) can be hard, because you dont have a lot of ego gifts.
I'd rather fight the moth than the whale.
You aim for the wing and do big attack after you broke it.
Rime Shank if you have it but not necessary, he's beatable with burn team even.
