He's decent at low SP, but getting there is the problem and most fights won't let him reach that stage.
In a standard fight, you're almost always better off using him to tank a hit with his counter so he gets sinking and starts his way down to low SP (He might get next turn paralyze as well). But even then, it's abysmally slow. He has a unique SP status that he loses SP if he loses clashes, but if he's gonna lose a clash --- why not use his counter instead?
Against enemies that inflict sinking, his passive at 3 Envy will tend to tank him too much so you'll get corrosion.
In MD, unless you get the EGO Gift that keeps him at low SP, he struggles really badly. Unlike N Sinclair, he's a negative ID with low payoff.
If you really wanna use him and you haven't played Canto 6 yet, keep him for that Canto, he's great there due to... circumstances.
ooof thank you was thinking I was just bad
He's finicky to use. you can deliberately lose clashes with his S1 to drop his SP quickly, his counter is what you want to use as much as possible and basically never clash.
if this seems like it makes for someone that's inconvenient to use and the wonkyness makes for worse performance than an ID that can just do damage without throwing clashes, congrats. that's how he is.
But I have him in my sinking team anyway for style points.
A few observations:
- You'll generally have to spend a turn or two to build Sinking for his passive - both for -SP each turn and protection.
- Don't waste S2 when above -15 SP, unless you have no other choice.
- Difference between counter and lost S1 is that latter gives you +1 Sinking count on use - that can save your sinking buildup.
- Obviously prefer tanking hits with paralyze, sinking, and single-coins (to save sinking).
- 50% protection is still no joke an occasionally he can eat up a really strong attack.
- He's also probably the only ID that can ever reach 100% protection (with certain teammates/gifts), but he has no aggro and, again, it will take too much effort to build.
"Occasionally fun/powerful, but takes too much effort to set up" is his another ongoing theme. For 1-2 turns below -25 SP he'll feel really good - autowin against any <19 clash and a very decent damage, but obviously there are tons of alternatives that can do the same thing *consistently* and without any setup.
counter 2x or 3x until his sanity go negative 10 or 20 then use skill, that is how to use him outside MD.
or spam E.G.O / use Bind E.G.O for consistent negative -10 sanity for 3 turns that expensive resource to use but enable him.
hes really hard to use because no consistent Negative Coin.
