Tips for fighting Bamboo-hatted Kim on the story mission?
Got destroyed before I could even get to his first stagger bar. I've fought him before on the mirror dungeon but by then my whole team is at full sanity and is loaded with gifts that make him a complete breeze. Not so much in the story mission, all of my sinners are level 40 and either at uptie 3 or 4 but they struggle to clash with his attacks, which lets him snowball and kill everyone.

I would love to be able to tell you how to handle it but I've never run into this problem, I don't even know half of his attacks because he never makes it to round 4 before stagger. I remember during story mission I double checked how his sanity works and sacrificed at least 2 sinners to his stronger attacks, but I'd have to give him another try to give you any more meaningful advice than that.

That's strange. Do you run BL team against him? This dungeon kinda implies you to use that team. He usually gets staggered turn 2-3 and then dies.

I tried to just push on but everyone was barely scratching him and couldn't clash due to being at low sanity or inflicted with paralysis, all while his attacks got stronger and he gained poise. By the time I was about to reach his first stagger bar, I had 2 sinners left and one would've died next round from bleed. I was using BL Faust and Mersault, Captain Ishmael, Rabbit Heathcliff, Dieci Rodion, and Spicebush Yi Sang.

I haven't even reached the dungeon, I'm on the mission before that when you first encounter Kim. And the only leveled up BL unit I have is Faust, I'm borrowing Mersault from someone else. Besides that, I have BL Outis and Don, neither of which are leveled up.

Oof actually that'd explain it, without running basically full BL against him you're actually going to run low on damage and clash power. In their full line up BL is all slashing and can get like +300% damage on crit. He's also a negative coin creature so bringing sinking against him is a big mistake if you're already doing around 1/6th the damage they expect you to be doing. You need to drop Deici and Spice brush because of that.

Other than that you're going to need to exploit other damage building gimmicks. Maybe go full pride/wrath resonance team since I know he's weak to that and it'll help BL Meursault support your Faust.

Well, I beat him on his first encounter, I guess I just got unlucky the first time and kept getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rolls because the second time was just really easy and I didn't do much differently. Should I expect his dungeon version to be harder? I won't have access to BL Mersault during that it seems, so my only available BL units will just be Faust and Don if I level her up. Since everyone was talking about how insanely strong he was, I spent all of my lunacy and tickets trying to pull him but only got Faust instead... :(

You'll be able to box for him by the end of session, you have like a month or so.

The dungeon version of him isn't harder per-say but all of the ego gifts available are based around BL, KK, bleed, slashing, and crit. Anything else you get will be from starter gifts or the the shop at the end of floor. So don't expect him to be as easy as he is at the end of a normal mirror dungeon. Be careful of Jun encounters as well, since since he's likely to take out one of your sinners with his counter if you can't kill him by turn 3. BL meursault's 'i don't die' resonance passive is a pretty good for dealing with it though.

Dungeon Kim should be easier purely from going in with higher sanity, making it easier to force his sanity up clashing against his weaker skills and tanking any you think you won't win. Just be mindful of Grievance if you don't kill him before he starts using his more deadly skills or multiple counters.

Not to mention all the OP ego gifts that the dungeon has.

Gotcha, thank you all for the advice.

Use Chains of Others as many times as possible especially before he uses To Claim Their Bones. Sinclair N CORP. can Win Clashes. Ishmael Captain gets Sanity Points if Ally dies.

Full Blade Lineage team comp kills him before he can ramp up.
In Hard Dungeon, managed to kill him turn 1 with tons of Poise Stacking.
