You can also Overclock EGOs and use the corroded versions by holding LMB on them in battle, doing so makes them not target allies but they still target randomly.

Corrosions of EGOs are usually stronger they roll higher or have better effects most of the time but they also cost more sanity and resources to use.

FWIW, not all Corroded EGOs target randomly, which can be to your advantage. For example, Hong Lu's Dimension Shredder, when Corroded, will target the character on the field with the highest HP - which is usually gonna be the boss enemy you're fighting. Corroded Roseate Desire targets whoever has the highest speed, and so forth.

Reading the fine print can be worthwhile when deciding whether you want to risk Corrosion or not.

There's a chance to turn E.xtermination of G.eometrical O.rgan Awakening Skills into Corrosion Skills If negative Sanity Points.

There's also a few that don't even have indiscriminate targetting, instead having other penalties.

Screwloose Wallop's corrosion effect can still be targetted properly. But it increases the Surgery stacks, meaning less health, and closer to death for Mersault.

Specifically Don Quixote's Telepole also remains targetting enemies. But it has a hefty Rupture effect on her allies for using it, in exchange for a guaranteed 10 charge across the party. Don't need to worry about Fragile if you don't get hit, right?

Spamming them can still work though if the EGO has some targeting criteria all the enemies fit (high hp, low hp, etc) or if you are soloing the enemy.
