I have no clue what I'm doing
This game looks nice and slick, but I have no clue what is going on in combat.
Sadly, because of this I think I can uninstall this game now. I could probably keep at it until it makes sense, but I don't want to waste time.

yeah, PM tutorials are not great. Is it how clashes are calculated or something else?

you only need to learn clash mechanic. its easier the more you play.

I'll try my best to explain the clashes. winning clashes depends on the total value of coins flipped heads. every skill has a number of coins and a value of coin power. if you win a clash you retain your coins and the loser loses one, if all coins are lost, winner attacks the loser. upon attacking all remaining coins is the number of attacks the winner will dish out to the loser. if an attack flipped on head (bright hue of coin) the damage will boosted. for example . a skill has a base power of 5 and has 3 coins each with 2 coin power, if all coins flipped heads, 2x3+5=11 you will have 11 clash power. if that 11 is higher than that of your enemy, you win and the enemy will lost 1 coin to flip for the next clash. finally, the chance to flip heads depends on the value of your sanity (blue number lower right of character sprite next to blue orb) higher value the higher chance, the max value is 45. and take note, the one farthest from the center will attack 1st (player team= left most character; enemy= right most character/skill). good luck!
Basically use the Identities that have 9000 Coin Skills with Highest Values to Win and keep Sanity at Max. People think it's more Deep than it actually is. It can be if they ever rework a lot of the Gimmicks and Status so most ID's become actually useful and not just some Pointless Low Coin Value Novelty that's gonna end up wasting Turns for no reason ( Refraction Railway ). They need to give Players a BIG INCENTIVE to try and exploit all Statuses/Mechanics and fix ID's that can't self sustain like W Corp Meursault which is a damn 000. The same goes for all the Defense Skill Issues.

The thing that makes this game difficult to understand is that there are a ton of different systems interacting all at once when a clash happens.

The main things that effect how a clash plays out are the power and number of 'coins' each skill has. I don't know exactly what the variance is but when two units clash they roll against each other based on their attack and whoever rolls a higher number enough times wins the clash. Having higher sanity also makes it easier for a unit to win a clash.

The catch is that a skill's coins act like rerolls during the clash. So to win a clash against an enemy who has 2 coins your unit needs to win two rolls.

You can get an idea of how a clash will go by looking at the text and lines that appear when you choose your target or skill. The closer your unit's arrow is to the enemy (like on the actual battlefield) the more likely you are to win the clash.

Something else that happens during clashes is that the unit who loses a roll drops a coin. This means they lose that reroll, but it also means they'll do fewer hits IF they manage to come back and win the clash.

A unit's resistances and vulnerabilities also effect how likely they are to win or lose a clash too.

TL;DR: check the arrow and text at the top of the screen to get a good idea how likely you are to win a clash. Skills with higher power and more coins are more likely to win clashes.

Is pretty simple:

• Chain colors
• ???
• What?
• Win

Turn off auto coin flips for now. It makes it a lot easier to understand what's happening.
Reading. Remember to read your Skills, Ego and such.
Else you'll end up killing yourself and get yourself killed.
