On hardmode 1 or 2 clash lose even on human fight can mean ids will get staggered or even death for some ids especially if this is their first time doin hardmode and they haven't buy any defensive buff and or nullified their ids first staggered thresholds for hardmode.
Check how many Hit Points until Stagger Thresholds, Phys.ical Resistances, SIN AFFINITyIES Resistances, Attack Types, SIN AFFINITyIES, & Coin Amounts for Neutral & below Clashes.
Can they live / not? 1 Coin's fine because it just Staggers. Many Coins aren't because 1 Coin can Stagger & next Coins can kill.
lv30, u3 are fine, doable with 1/4 of starlight perks, even. The problem is your team is very slash heavy vs slash resist. What's probably happening is an Inquisitor wins a clash and starts snowballing, forcing a defend but 40% of the team has counter and so eats ♥♥♥♥. And you lack a a clear tank. Getting outnumbered in a chain battle is what (base) mr. Salt is for. You can bench him later for a good passive, even.
As a sidenote, you can use pre-fight ordering to set up more fragile units to take less turns, or for example place KK Ryoshu on 1 to take every convinient opportunity to grab gluttony for later.
F1 stall/pick colors for resources, but ngl i am not above using EGO earlier if needed, tho it tends to not bode well for the plan's long-term viability. Open Guido fight with bursting units down with EGOs, preferably AoE. from that point onward, just dogpile on the boss.
it's one of these "difficulty curve: vertical" moments, aka you forgot one of billion mechanics (resists/tanks). try again with extra blunt units (preferably to round out EGO resource acquisition + a tank), pick up the team as you go - poise is miserable to force, wait for ego gift(s) first - keep in mind rotating the units to match weaknesses show is very helpful when below MD requirements. As a bonus, you will have some resources up-front in case 1st shop gives an ego gift for your desired team.
as for MD2H in general: by default you want 1 healing ego gift and 1 resource gen ego gift, regardless of comp. Former lets you facetank some dmg inflation, latter is for EGO spam on F5.
my MD2H team, brainless edition: chef gregor (legerdemain), 7 outis, LC faust (fluid sac), LCB meur (pursuance), LCB hong lu, then grab shi donq + start replacing base units with whatever synergises with ego gifts
